Bike Talk / Re: Helmets.............

Breath deflector, chin guard both fitted.
Always wear ear plugs.

All the big talk of Shoei being quieter was one of the main reasons I switches. Thought the Arai was quiet so looked forward to this.

I'll give the guys all the feed back and see what happens.

Jarse - that's what the boys at bikestop said, shoei's are normally quieter. As I thought my Arai was quiet I was looking forward to the nxr.

Manic, spot on with those two deductions. There does seem to be more space between my ear and aside of the padding, hence more noise. I'll bear with it a bit longer and try to get a more custom fit. The boys at bikestop said that was the next step, to get a shoei chap down and sort me out.

Hopefully it will come good as its a class looking bit of kit.

I think I know the answer, got a few fitting options this weekend to see what happens.

I'm wear my kid everyday commuting so has to be spot on.
How do you find out what shape head you are from fitting in a shop?

Yes, I wear ear plugs and noisier then old lid so something's not right.  I'll keep you all posted and keep suggestion coming.

Bike Talk / Helmets.............
December 10, 2014, 04:48:33 PM

Just bought a new Shoei NXR Shakey Byrne rep lid - looks great.
However, I used to wear an Arai Astro R which was a perfect fit for noise, comfort etc.

Tried the new lid on in the shop, ticked all the boxes but I'm just not getting on with it on the road.
Wind noise seems more excessive then the Arai but this is supposed to be a newer quieter lid, been back to the shop once to check pads etc.
Heading back again to sort out ear/check pads.

Anyone had similar experiences? Do I not have a "Shoei Head"?
I can't return the lid, so I either stick it out or try and flog and lose a lot of money.

Any help, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Wanted / Re: yoshimura badge for r1 2002-03 exhaust

Moz,

Would prefer the riveted option but can't find any.
Might source a cheap bash up can with a decent badge and go down that route - seems like an expensive option.

Cheers,

Bike Talk / Re: older yamaha R1 good buy or not?

I've got a 2002 R1, blue with black frame and letter box tail light, bought it two years ago. Commute all year round on it and a great bit of kit.

Wanted / yoshimura badge for r1 2002-03 exhaust
November 09, 2014, 03:47:50 PM

I'm tidying up the R1, service, wash, clean up etc and I want to replace all the worn/rusty bits.

As the title says, where would I find a yoshimura badge for r1 2002 exhaust?
I've search the web, ebay etc but nothing.

Any pointers would be great.

Bike Talk / Re: Filtering etiquette

I do the same, filter to the front and drop into traffic if it starts moving.

I don't wan to crash your thread Carbon but I'm thinking about doing something similar.

I ride my R1 all year round but this year I'm thinking winter hack/fun - supermoto style bike an option?
I've seen the KTC 625smc's are decent enough. I know nothing about these bikes so someone recommend something decent, reliable and fun and I'll test ride and get one.

Cheers.

Looks awesome, and a lot cleaner with some stickers off.

I thought it was a proper race bike at first - very slick.

Bike Talk / Leather repairs - zips
April 30, 2014, 09:08:57 AM

As the title says, I have an A-stars 1 piece suit.
However, the zips on both legs are bust.

Anyone know any good repairers in the beds, herts, bucks area? I can post if needed.
I mainly after recommendations as their are lots of firms out there if you google.

Cheers

Bike Talk / Re: Recommend me some tyres please
April 08, 2014, 02:11:09 PM

I had sportsmarts, great when its dry found them a bit twitchy in the wet. I commute all year so wanted the best of both worlds.

I have pilot roads 2ct's on at the month and find them great even in the recent down pours.

Its not recomended to mix tyre makes but it can be done as long as you go for similar compounds. You don't want a touring front and super sticky rear.

I'm sure you get the jist.

Bike Talk / Re: A major biking direction change

I currently commute on an R1, does feel overkill but I do enjoy it but recently I have been getting the itch for an upright.

Do naked bikes offer decent protection when blasting down the motorway?
