Projects / VFR800 VTEC
August 24, 2021, 10:43:24 PM
i bought an 03 VFR800 vtec for £1600 over lockdown as a project to go touring on,19,119 miles from new

my girlfriend loves coming out on the gixer, but we can't tour on it.so I bought this as a non runner.

work done :-
new tank with fuel pump as old one had been destroyed due to age & old petrol
new stainless delkovic full system, new rear shock, rebuilt the front forks and uprated the springs to K tech.
powder coated wheels, new wheel bearings & seals, a full service and overhaul, K&N filter, new levers, powerbronze screen, heated grips, seat recovered and repadded, luggage system.

really pleased with it and how it turned out, loads of life left in it :cheesy:
done two touring trips to Scotland and it's really good for an 18 year old bike :-)

off to wales next wednesday for 4 days on it.

hoping to get away around europe on it next year for a 10 day tour

i've got one of these on my recently refurbed VFR800vtec, for the money i can't fault it.

preload and rebound settings, i've had a play with it and i seem to have set it up fairly good.

i rode back from scotland in May, two up with panniers & top box and it seemed to wallow round the bends with us on it.
i added a couple of turns more of preload before the next trip to scotland, same set up with luggage and pillon, and same route back and it handled a lot better.
For £275 i think it's really and looks well.

cracking 280 miles out around the western lakes & then down to ullswater and home via the shap.

planning on a ride out to aylesbury this weekend to see sax & missus.
nice meal out and a few beers on sat night, then a good ride home by the looks of the weather, so coming back through the derbyshire dales.
looking forward to it,will be on the VFR, not used it since scotland trip at the end of june.

does look good that mate  :thumbright:
definitely more pillion friendly,so your lass will be far better on that mate

reason i got that old VFR,easier for hannah on long trips.
i'll be up on the it in June,it'll be my second trip to Scotland this year.
doing the the SWC 300 at end of may on it and some trips around dumfrieshire and the borders, so be good to get back up there.

Afraid we are going to have to bow out this year  :( gutted is an understatement.

We may be able to make it to Hawes and Middleton but will have head home after that.

Alzo, apologies for messing the numbers up on the meals.

Before I cancel the Premierr Inn is anyone short of a room?

Stay safe and have a deep fried haggis for Ian

ahh, bummer!!  shame you two can't make it,hopefully see you both in june..

not been on here for a while,so thought i'd best check in.. :embarrassed:

at the moment,i'm planning on meeting in hawes as normal for 10am as that's when the café opens.
leave at 10.30,heading up for brough, middelton in teesdale in to alston for fuel, then across to hexham & then up to otterburn to have lunch in the redesdale arms.then  quick blast along the A68 to then cut across country to join the A7.

if your meeting us there and arrive early and need fuel, fill up then,so we can get off at 10.30.

if the weather is as bad as last year, then just make your own way up there.no fun riding in snow over the peninnes!!  lol

weather on Friday is looking bloody shit!! snow & sleet in the morning on way to alston.it's already snowed in weardale I believe.so if it's bad while we're in hawes, then I might suggest a route change & go back towards leyburn & jump on A1 to durham then onto A68
