As some of you know I have spent the last few years hitting the green lanes on my trusty DR350.

We have shared some great times and there isn't any trail I am not prepared to throw it at.
Everyone I know who has owned a DR350 regrets selling it, including the bloke I bought it from.
But..... I have had my head turned by the Yamaha Tenere 700.

I have the requisite permission slip from the mrs to make the change but I have to let the DR go if I want the T7.
On the plus side the T7 will give me a much greater range than the DR as it is so much better on the road sections but it is also a peach off road albeit heavier but more powerful.
Also I can actually buy accessories for the T7 cos its new and people are making stuff for it whereas I have struggled to buy parts for the DR.
Also Dan, who I ride with most has a KTM 790S so I know these larger bikes are more than capable of tackling the trails we ride.
On the down side its a lot of money to throw in a muddy Welsh ditch and I can see myself being precious about it.
Also there is not a lot of second hand ones about and they are going for strong money.
Also I can spanner the DR myself and it takes minimal maintenance.
Final decision is a bit of a way off due to the house move and needing to be sure we are financially OK after that.
Target date is getting a T7 for my birthday next year.
Every time I think I have made up my mind something comes along to change it. Most recently I rode the DR to Dartmoor and back, it did everything, maybe not as well on the road as Dan's KTM 790 but certainly good enough and I get emotionally attached to bikes so usually have to write them off rather than sell them.

What percentage is road riding?...I did an off road course a few years back and counter intuitive to my usual thinking was that the smaller capacity engines and a modest power output were probably more favourable for that particular activity...will the 700 and increased weight/size be a hinderence rather than an improvement???
The smaller capacity bikes are certainly the weapon of choice on the trails but the KTM 790 and Tenere are a very good compromise.
You can tackle some pretty severe stuff on the really big adventure bikes like a BMW GS if you have the skill.
The amount of lanes available is limited and a lot of my riding is tiny B-roads linking up the lanes.
Probably 70:30 roads to lanes unless I have planned it very well.
The 700 beckons...do it...don't question it...😊😉
Decent tyres, don't be tempted to add all the 'Adventure' nonsense and I reckon it's a win!
I'm thinking decent bashplate, engine protection and some sort of rack to throw the tent on.
Will probably go for some sort of decal kit if I can find one that doesn't look like I've crashed through Halfords so that can get scratched up and replaced when I fancy a change.
Looks great. How much are they and how do they compare price-wise to the 790 Adventure?
£9150 from the dealer £10500 for the Rally version pictured.
Used I have seen from £7300 bit £8500 is more common.
KTM 790 is about £11500.
Ridden both on and off road and I prefer the T7 even without all the computer whizzbangery.
Do it. Fantastic machines.
You know my thoughts already!
Do you not fancy the KTM 690
With all the Rally kit, yes.
I watch racestoplaces on YouTube and Basil bike is based on a KtM690.
That said the cost of changing a 690 and the maintenance intervals puts me off.
I reckon the T7 is the closest to a Dakar rally bike straight out of the box without being as highly strung.

you've just answered your question haven't you LOL get the T7
C'mon Dom get on with it fella 😎
Well that was an expensive weekend.
Deposit sent to a man I have never met for a bike I have only seen in pictures.
I think lockdown has made me a bit soft in the head.
Make and model?
Yamaha T700, not the Rally edition but with plenty of extras.

Delighted for you Dom. Well deserved. Look forward to the pictures 😎
Not got it yet, but deposit paid.
Just sorting the logistics.

Excited nervous at the prospect.
Nice one. May you have many happy and safe miles ahead. 🏍🏍🏍
Awesome; enjoy :D
good stuff, looks fun
have considered sticking knobblies on the 990, but suspect its a bit heavy for that type of thing :P
Looks awesome with proper tyres, exhaust and a tail tidy but you'll be scraping mud off the back of your head 🤣
komp - You would be amazed what you see full GS1200 or Multistradas go up, down and over in the right hands.
They are a bugger to lift mind you.
Not worried about the mud, I am washable.
That looks rather smart
Scratch that, seller has had second thoughts and is returning my deposit.
New bike day on Wednesday is cancelled.
Arse.
That is all.
What a shitter 😢

Cockwomble.
Only sorted collecting on Wednesday yesterday. Genuinely gutted.
Nothing comparable available for the same money.
What an arse.
Can't make someone sell something I suppose.
Call him in a couple of months and see if he still has it. Smacks of a gazzumping to me.
Legally you had a contract - offer and acceptance - so you could probably pursue it if you were a twat and wanted a legal bill!
What a pain in the bollocks.
The plot thickens, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel or it could be someone with a torch messing me about.

Go with your first instincts. If it feels like you're being dicked around you probably are.
Got my deposit refunded yesterday and sent the vendor a message to confirm and just asked him to let me know if he changed his mind.
Got a message back saying as I was now free on Wednesday would I like to come and see it. Bit odd as it was not for sale.
Anyway it turns out he had been out for a ride on his mates Royal Enfield and wants to buy that so the T700 is available again.
So we have agreed that I have first refusal on Wednesday, no deposit.
Will believe it when I see it but prepared to stick with it for now.
Think Dan had the right idea, buy from a dealer, pay full price, easy.
I hope it works out...🤞🤞🤞🤞

I'm also far too impatient to wait, I'd have had it sat in my garage well before he'd had the chance to sit down with a brew and think....... "fuck".....
Regretted selling my Buell as it was being taken away. Glad now though, this new bike in infinitely better.

Fingers crossed for Wednesday...or....gazump him on the Royal Enfield; assuming it is the Himalayan! ;)

I've felt that about two bikes: my SP2 and my ZRX1100. The SP2 because its now worth about £10K more than I paid for it, and the ZRX because it was 'ossum...
It is a Royal Enfield Interceptor, looks nice.
Counting down to see if the deal goes through.
This is not good for my anxiety levels.
Deal done and bike is safely in the care of Ninjaforce just about to hit the M3!
Excited much.
Fantastic 😎🏍👍🏻
Nice one. Enjoy. :moto: :moto:

AWSUM!! :afro: :moto: :moto:
Do we know the lad on the DR Dom?
Looks familiar
That would be a certain m6rk of this parish.
The new custodian of the mighty DR.
I thought it looked like him but like most of us, although not you Dom, he's aged and looks considerably more distinguished than his formative years.
I didn't want to guess and potentially offended 😉
You can always spot M6rk a mile off in any photo....... he's the one who looks like he's being anally violated, doesn't want anyone to know, and yet is curiously OK with it.
Congratulations on the new wheels gentlemen....... stay safe y'slags.
If its M6rk, Dom probably ended up paying him to ride the DR away...
I recall he had a monobrow in his youth too.
DW, fair point.
LTtF the internal workings of your mind 😳
Finally got a first ride at the weekend and on the road its a lovely ride, took in one local lane which was very muddy and wet and that will take a bit of getting used to.
Have to say I would have been wobbly on any bike in the same conditions but the extra weight of the bigger adventure style bike does not favour a timid approach.
Must ride it some more and bond with it, still feels like someone else's bike at the moment.
