need bit of advice got my eye on this thinking of doing a part exchange with my 97 zx6r but I don't really know much about the Hondas or if its a good deal or even bike anyone have any opinions?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-FMX-650-SUPERMOTO-NO-SWAP-P-X-CONSIDERD-/271468405065?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3f34c72149
there is also this

The Honda is not really a Supermoto. It's like a SM but not a real one. It's like saying a rav4 is an off roader.
The WR426 is just a converted Enduro bike. Lots of engine care and servicing required.
If you want a real supermoto animal nothing compares to a Husaberg FS650.
If you want a Supermoto wannabe with less servicing and TLC require ten look for a decent KTM LC4.
if im completely honest I want something that's not high high maintenance don't care about things I can change my self etc it has to be loud and reliable ish did have a go on a drz400 but it didn't have anymore go than my ninja 250
I have been looking for a ktm lc4 my other half recently got rid of her ktm had nothing but problems with it though I like the older style lc4 but they are few and far between unless I wanna do 110 miles to view the thing
I would love an sxv550 but cant warrant the cost atm sadly..

I would keep away from motos then. Deffo stay away from an SXV. I owned one for 2 years, the running and maintenance cost was horrendous.
They do look sweet. Mine just before I sold it

I know how often the maintenance is for the sxv but there such mental bikes and oooo the sound!
if a 690 comes along for the right money ill probably do it do prefer the older ones though
it's orange and in Hersham, surrey. I'll ask how much he wants for it
Xr650. Old but cheap and bullet proof. Sound awesome and wheelie through the box.
My heart tells me to buy another sxv, but my head says no. :(
Most of the guys I ride with have 690 smc. They seem to be OK.

im going to have to get one my backs not what it was and I need something upright but fun looks like you had a blast very jealous
I have KTM LC4 640 Enduro that I'm tempted supermoto up after a trip to Pyrenees, apart from muppet dealer in Colchester it's not been high maintenance or had any problems, its very much a precision peice of engendering & you need to treat it that way, to be on safe side stick to KTM parts (long story) I rode mine 300+ to Wales did Taffy Dakar & rode her all the way back, no issues whatsoever apart from sore arse.
Even if my KTM had issues the fun & pure pleasure I get from riding it is worth every penny
Thanks for all the encorugement guys and girls going to keep my eyes open

well im planning on coming off in them my decent leathers are purely for show well they are now im fat would help for the van we normally just grab each end of the bikes and well chuck in the back so a ramp wouldn't be a bad investment
I managed to ride straight up them on a klx250 was just hoping I may be able to on a supermoto still going for the ktm the moment I find what I want

You'll probably end up with a scooter
Things are usually cheap for a reason.
Good luck
I don't wan to crash your thread Carbon but I'm thinking about doing something similar.
I ride my R1 all year round but this year I'm thinking winter hack/fun - supermoto style bike an option?
I've seen the KTC 625smc's are decent enough. I know nothing about these bikes so someone recommend something decent, reliable and fun and I'll test ride and get one.
Cheers.
If you want something reliable, stick with your R1.
Supermotos are usually highly strung singles, that need lots of maintenance.
You either love them or hate them. Buy carefully, one with loads of history and has been looked after.
People seem to think they can buy one cheap and just ride and maintain it like a Jap bike.
I had an Xt660sm from yam.
Heavy and underpowered in comparison to all the "real" supermoto's listed above
However. Less maintenance. More sensible for longer trips and cruising/touring
The newer ones are better from fuelling POV. Mine was a little lumpy till I adjusted it and made a few mods.
Also If you didn't know I live on the isle of man and the roads other than the TT course are begging for an SM.
My first love is and always will be sports bikes. But here on any other road than the TT course...sm wins hands down
Loads and loads of massive grins and a pair of MX boots with worn out soles from idiotic foot out fuckwittery.
I want another now but I will wait till I can fund something worthwhile.
Are the lengendary Simon M says (hello mate, how are you buddy?) road motos might be the way forward.
KTM LC4 is also a little easier to live with servicing-wise and will be a little lighter and pokier than the Yam. Might be worth a look above any SMCs, converted MXs or enduro bikes etc.
Just my 2p.
My son had an LC4 engine in his brand new DukeII.
It was powerful for a single but it comes at a price.
The base gasket blew while he was carefully running it in - I was with him on that ride.
Then the vibes were permanently shaking loose major bits of the bike - the twin exhausts used to shake themselves loose every few hundred miles despite careful re-fitting, use of loctite etc....
A few years later I was chatting to the owner/mechanic of a small independant motorcycle repair garage & he said that the LC4 was in his opinion the most fragile of any engine in the last 20 years.
Until it was stolen, my son had a DRZ400 Suzuki as well as his DukeII - he preferred the KTM to ride (by miles actually) but the Suzuki was indestructable.
Bugger!
My LC4 was faultless but then again so was my Berg FS650 but I did change the oil and filter fortnightly
Ah that's interesting Moz, maybe my lad was just unlucky with his.
It always got hi home mind, the base gasket leak was mild enough to limp home with a top up of oil.
I have to say he utterly LOVED that bike mind, despite having had a string of litre bikes since, he still talks fondly of his DukeII.
The LC4 will rattle your fillings out.
Really depends what you want out of a moto. Plod along or a back lane scratcher.
Dont forget motos are all about loads of corner speed and lean angle.

Depends if you are thinking of laning on it.
Mine had a loud pipe on it that the previous owner changed back to standard, personally I prefer it quieter.

Moz I've used my LC640 off road in Wales and Pyranees in all terrain, she's not too heavy at all, she might be too tall, I stand at 5'9 with 34 inside leg and she's perfect for me.
I wasn't keen on riding her as a commuter as they're not really built to sit at speed in a single gear, I'd listen for knocking..... Cover exhaust after it's been warmed up and if it sounds like a bag of nails it might need an engine rebuild, they are renowned for engine bearing issues.
The bloke never emailed back but I'm actively looking need new bike sooner than later now
You'll find something, have you joined any Greenlane adventure bike forums? You'd be surprised what gets put up for sale on them.

I'm trying to find out about the v5
So seems like a good buy then, seller got it wrong its actully only got 9500 miles...
he should be getting it mot'd this morning so touch wood it will all be good , just need more input about buying without the full v5
he cant afford to put it through mot needs new rear as I expected and a legal plate but he is willing to drop the price to £1750 as is and deliver it, I can book it in for mot Saturday and have a tyre fitted
still puts it in under 2k
So this chap, bought the bike without having passed his test and it has no MOT so how exactly can he state that it starts, goes and stops 100%?
Not exactly what you would call an expert opinion is it?
Maintained regardless of expense....except tyres.....and an MOT.
Not filling me with confidence. How much do these things normally go for? Is it enough of a bargain to warrant a punt?

You and me both the millage was a bit suspect but I'm about to find out about that and see if it tallys with past mot's
You have to promise me, that you don't go on the my KTM forum asking loads of questions, you already know the answer's to.
Na never been on it
You may fancy this. Now you have a moto
http://www.ktmforum.co.uk/supermoto/1004786-flid-fest-supermoto-trackday.html
Well it failed spectacularly most of it cheap as in pennys or free I.e bolts missing/loose but it did fail on the head race bearings which is also cheap if I do it my self not so if I dont, millage spears to be genuine it matchs up with previous mot's etc and said the damage/ marks is very beliveable and not out the ordinary even for a 5900 mile bike
When are you going to post pictures of the shed?
