As a serial bike changer like you I think the XR makes most sense and they are meant to hassle along pretty well too

I must try this - one trick I haven't tried with the mrs to justify a new bike lol

Interested to know what you get. Bike prices seem to have gone nuts recently

Looks like you need the gs dude.

What about the 950 multistrada, £8k maybe?

Triumph tiger sport as mentioned would be a cheaper alternative.

I like the xr's and fancy one at some point when they depreciate a bit more.

Have a read of this, tells you nothing you don't already know but consider the bit about how much traffic the xr would see in your general use and whether the s1000r would be worth having a look/test of also.

Xsr 700/900 worth a look. The 700s are cheap have a bit of character and are a bit of an unknown wheelie machine. Had there been a decent one around when I was looking for my last bike I would have gone that route over the street triple.

Ducati scrambler fine for pootling about but dynamically it's Lacking and a heavy old lump.

Z1000r - I'd rather have a mt10 for £500 cheaper that also won't depreciate as much.

Actually thinking of that - I'd have a good look at the mt09... another one I came close to.

The one bike I've never been able to part with is my rsv4 so if you wanted a long term keeper and it had to be a road bike that does everything I would actually bypass the street triple thoughts and get a 2016 on 1100 tuono. Utterly brilliant. I'd go with the R for more road biased suspension. My rsv4 is the R for same reason
