Bike Talk / Re: Are modern bikes just too good?

Would I like a 220HP BMW M1000R?
Fuck yes.
Do I want to pay over £30k for a toy?
Fuck no.
Could I live with the risk of losing my job even if the bike was being given away?
Probably not.

Still can't understand why I sold it....... I remember it leaving in the back of a van and thinking "what the fuck am I doing?"

Now there's just always something else to spend money on.....

Remember thinking the same watching my ZRX riding away!

Just depends on type of bike I guess? If I was looking for sportsbike I'd be looking at the mental power, but if I'm looking at a retro scrambler kind of a thing or even a cruiser I doubt I'd really be that bothered as long as it felt like it had 'enough'.
It's a pretty subjective question.

I got rid of my off-road bikes because it was impossible to find somewhere to ride within 50 miles of here unless you wanted to ride around in circles on a motocross practice track.
Must admit I didn't realise Scotland was so restrictive. I'd had it down as a bit of an open wilderness to explore.

Quote from: Jarse on November 01, 2020, 06:16:31 PMFinding somewhere to use it is the problem. Would you be looking road legal or pure off road?

I'd love one.

Is Scotland not dirtbike friendly?

I'd imagine you're in a good part of the World for it?
It's great fun, bloody exhausting and a lot harder than it looks.
Sadly my part of the country either has a fence around it or someone building houses on it!

Quote from: MOzZereLLa on October 31, 2020, 09:40:59 PMBut like Tesla - do they look good but up close they are pig iron?

The ones I've looked at (briefly) seem better built than most bikes these days. The Victory bikes that preceded them were really nicely made.

Quote from: David W on October 31, 2020, 04:52:26 PMMy local Aprilia dealer is having the annual Tuono fire sale with thousands off them.

The problem is also the fact most Aprilia dealers are miles from prospective owners and some of them don't have the best reputations. I still love them.

Dealer I bought my MT from has expanded and is Suzuki, Aprilia, Yamaha, Moto Guzzi and Indian now. Quite fancy an Indian Bobber or FTR now!

Manufacturers are fitting some fucking cheap and nasty suspension on bikes these days. I got told by someone in the industry that the manufacturers purchase budget for a sportsbike shock was about £50!

BMW S1000RR has reliability some horror stories flying around it so I'm not sure I'd be keen on a new model based on it.
Kawasaki's are shit these days so that leaves KTM or Triumph.
I'd probably lean towards the Triumph unless they screw it right up!

Few weeks ago.
Really not been in the mood over this summer to be honest with all the Coronavirus malarkey. The missus anxiety levels have been bad enough without me adding to it so my free mornings have been on pedal bikes rather than motorbikes.

Quote from: Green_Ninja on September 20, 2020, 07:50:53 PMHow about and MT10 touring  ;) just to mix things up a bit LOL.

But from your 4 the Kawa SX is the one.

I've got the comfort seat on mine like the Touring Edition but the pillion pegs are still 'sportsbike level'. I wouldn't want to go far on the back of one!

Quote from: Lord Danoir the first on September 11, 2020, 03:45:22 PMNo, but I'd have thought 15 years of development would make the same rider quicker....... seems not though!!

Daft thing is that TC is then just dropping 200HP down to 100HP, which is no more than the GSXR will be putting down at that point in time too and therefore be going no faster....

Thats not what happens though fwiw .....

I was generalising rather than going into detail.

If you're interested I'd give it another month or so and wander into your nearest Kawasaki dealer with a copy of any discounted ads you've seen elsewhere and I reckon there will be a deal to be done.
