I'm looking at WR250s for the purposes of green laning - what are your opinions as a good first laner?
*edit* wow, autocorrect really did a number on me there!
Funnily enough we're going tomorrow! I'll let you know how we get on...
Going on ktm 250 exc-f's
Say whaaaaaaaat.
Where was my invite? :P
This is what gopros were invented for!
Didn't think you'd be interested what with your new toy!!!
(How much sleep have you missed now?)
And yes, gopro will be used!
How much sleep have I missed?
Answer: All of it.
T minus 11 hours and counting until we launch ourselves at the most thoroughly soaked countryside on record.
No fear, not even a little bit.
Lucky f*cks :)
How much was it?
185
man,
i hurt. and i didn't even fall off nearly as much as the others.
fun though!!!
90 odd miles of green lanes from verwood to salisbury plain and back.
and a billion gallons of water.
by 'the others' I think you mean 'Neil'
Twas fun, and it's something that I can tick off on my list of things to do, and may even do it again.
250s are fine for most stuff, very good for technical rides but can be a bit annoying if you have long road sections.
I have a KTM 450 exc for Greenlaning as round my way there's a good bit of road work and long flat lanes. Nothing technical.
Also have a 250exc for race/practice days and technical stuff.
If you round Essex way can come for a ride. Also do Wales trips and practice/race days too. Dawn till dusk lined up for this year too!

Didn't want to name names, but yes, Neil, you.
Am I allowed to site this as something that I'm better at then you? (For the time being, at least)
Of course you are, Dom too....I can't be great at everything
Once you conquer ruts you will be unstoppable, you breezed up all the technical stuff.
Even the instructors were saying it was tough out there today, but would have been worse if it was raining.
The arse of Illoir once again shines upon the righteous.
Try riding desert dunes - that is an education!!!
Glad you had a good day!
Go greenlaning and you can feel as heroic as Millhouse...

Theres a good circular route round Stansted/Newport way that we use regularly, if they are interested I can organise a ride. We use this website for Essex greenlining, its very active for rides etc. www.greenlaners.boards.net
Thanks! They're completely new to riding, let alone greenlaning so I'm not sure they'll want to go out with others just yet, but I'll try to convince them!
Thanks for the link!
If there new even more reason to ride with others! Riding the lanes on your won is a bad move. If you come off on your own and get knocked out or injured you could be stuck on some of the lanes for days before someone would find you. Also if you break down its a nightmare, I speak from experience from having to push my bike off a lane for about 2 miles, in the freezing cold, soaked through. Not fun!
Join up on the site, we run all experience rides with no pressure on new riders. All a good bunch of lads.
Im off next Wednesday to Cambodia for two weeks off road riding. Cant wait!

Great bike if you can find one that's been looked after or a new ish one. The engine has more than enough grunt for green lanes and it will do 60mph easily on the road. My mate reckons he did over 80 on his! I got one last year and apart from the knackered bearings in the swing arm and linkage, a fork service, new piston and rings, new valves and a cylinder bore and recoat... It's been great.
