I dropped into my mates scrap yard the other day to chat to him about dropping an old car engine off for scrap which I've been left with (currently filling my trailer)
as I left, I spotted the weightbridge, so I parked my B1 on it and asked for the weight of it as it stood
It was 180kg dead with 3/4 tank of fuel in it :shocked:
I don't know if I was more gutted with that as they claim 162kg dry, or that he said it was only worth £10 as scrap value :rofl: :embarrassed:
Manufacturers tell some preposterous lies about dry weight. They are usually miles out.
My SP2 was just over 205kg with a full tank, and SP2's had a reputation for being heavy old buses. By contrast a 2007 GSXR1000, which Suzuki reckoned had a dry weight of about 170kg and everyone thought was a lightweight, was a massive 3kg lighter in the same scales...
So 14ish litres of fuel is roughly 14kg
How far out is that dry weight now?
I think petrol is about 2/3rd the weight of water?

you're almost right, 730grams per litre.
so 14 litres=(ish)10kg
-2kg for a battery
-3kg for coolant
-some more for oil
not far off the claimed dry weight then, surely?
Was going to say that sounds about right to me, got to allow 3kg for oil and a 2kg for coolant surely. Even brake fluid would be 0.5kg surely?
As for the other few kilos have you considered any mods, mirrors and indicator mods, heater grips, differnt end can - might all add up to a couple of kilos?
The mirror indicator mods may add on a KG, and the race can on it is quite a bit lighter than the OEM one. I can't really think of much else really. I guess that 180kg we isn't bad either way.
