Post by: Stuno1 on April 24, 2014, 12:09:52 PM
I need a second car for the wife and it will also be used to tow my gixer 750.

Used a 1.8 leon with no issue but will 1.6 be ok?

My girlfriend has a gutless 1.6 auto petrol Focus and that pulls my open trailer c/w GSXR 750, genny, spare wheels etc etc ok once up to speed.

Ok, so a 1.6 should be ok then.

Opens up more options.

I used to tow with a 1.7 normally aspirated diesel van, it was gutless but it did the job!

I've got an old Mazda 323. Does that seem like a fair swap..?  :cheesy:

You know it's not the misses that can tow the bike??? If that's what you're thinking you'd be better off with a hitch fitting to the Mazda!

Surely any vehicle should be able to tow a bike and trailer.

Isn't it just like having three (fatish) adults in the car weight wise???

Max towing speed is 50 on NSLs and 60 on the motorway. I'd just be inclined to go for a TD car which is very good on fuel. If you are goign to spend all the time towing up and down big hills, get a bigger engine.

You did take your driving test before 1997 didn't you as you will need to take a towing test if towing a trailer with an all up weight above 750kg otherwise

I used to have a battered old 1.4 306 and that was fine towing 2 bikes.
