My brakes are feeling a bit crap right now. I have either the choice of getting a pair of monoblock R1/R6 calipers, or refurbing the standard Tokico's.
The B1 bolt spacing on the bottom of the fork leg for the radial calipers is 108mm so I need to know what will fit ?
M6RK/ Neil ? can you remember what you had to buy, are they all the same spacing for the 04 onwards 4 pot calipers ?
This is the thread revival .... can't believe it was 5 years ago

Cant remember the measurement but needed spacers for monoblocks before I put brembos on
108mm is the same distance, the spacers may be required due to disc size but I cant remember what they were, tbh Ash I found the std calipers on my B1 to be more than sufficient when allied to Brembo pads and stainless hoses, did plan to put a brembo master on but when the calipers were serviced I decided no need although a nice bit of brembo m/c action is always an improvement
What you useing the bike for as I could stop mine on her pretty nose with the standard brake only got the brembos for the e-penis boost
Perhaps it is a combination of the MC and the calipers needing a going over. I recall when M6 had his done, he said that the pads were much cheaper for the monoblocs than the Tokico B1 calipers, and I'll be needing a set in the next 12 months - Brembo full set for the front end is nearly £120
I know that a strip and overhaul will make a big difference, I am weighing up whether it is worth going the extra bit and switching properly.
mine were for a zx10r and i wanted to to retain the standard disc size. So we needed to shave a little off the calipers to get them to sweep the disc surface.. cant remember exactly how much
and back to back the r1 calipers pissed over the tokico's...
It was about 5mm IIRC. I'd consider bigger diameter rotors if I go down that road. The standard ones in the B1 are fairly small in diameter.
Did you also swap out the MC for a 16mm one M6 ?
standard mc worked fine, but i swapped it out for the m/c that came with the r1 caliper as it was a radial jobbie but tbh i didn't notice much difference..
Ta for that :) How much did the lot set you back ?
buy these and be done with it

 and double the value of the bike ;)

why not force a pair of FGR ohlins forks on there too maybe some bst wheels and a decent rider :azn: could have a real weapon

One step at a time for me. Brakes which don't feel like blocks of wood which don't rely on disk munchers to get a decent feel, and don't cost the earth when the pads are up for renewal is the goal. I'm not in any hurry to move the bike on, so I'm happy to chip away at it to get it the way I like it.
Take a look at any of the recent monoblock calipers fitted to any Jap sports bike. They are all 108mm fitting and worst case scenario will only require some spacers to get the swept area matched to the disks.
ps what size discs does the B1 have (it's been a good few years since I had mine)

approx 275mm dia

280mm
In that case forget what I put, or get some bigger discs
or just machine a little off the caliper mounting posts
I have standard discs, calliper and MC with hel lines and brembo pads on my B1 and I think the brakes are awesome. I was considering a after market MC but the brembo pads have made it so good that I'm not gonna bother
the stock brakes are far from crap and easily good enough for road decent pads and disks are the best bet unless you can get the mono blocks cheap when I had them on mine you did stop a bit sharper and you have a bit more feel but it never gave me an out of this world difference
Right, I stuck in a low bid for a pair of 2007 R6 gold spot monoblocks and this has been accepted (Shit, hope they have the same mounting hole distances). I'll be wanting to strip and refurb them before they go on the bike. I'm going to track down a pair of larger diameter disks to stick on there as well. Has any one got any idea what the largest set will fit, is it 310mm ?
In the mean time, where is the best place to get a key from to remove the piston covers ?
The R6 calipers will be the same - ie 108mm mounting points.
Woohoo. The calipers turned up this morning. Got a bit of a scuff on one of them (which is a shame, however, otherwise they look very clean. I want to put some bigger disks on the bike now (maybe 310mm or 320mm). I've seen a set of very unworn Brembo stamped Mille discs (310mm or3 20mm diameter) in a local breakers for sensible money, but no idea if the offset is close, or whether the carrier is the same size. Any experience on swapping disks out, and if so what else of larger diameter works on the 6R wheels (to replace the 280mm diamter standard discs) v ?
