Hi Chaps,
Now I'm not very technical in the engine area of things, so forgive me if my explanations are bit naff. :embarrassed:
I purchased a Akrapovic end can for my ZX6R 2006. I installed myself, seemed easy enough, sounds awesome, after a short spinout! :azn:
Took it out for a more speedy runout last night, and when I hard accelerate the revs seem to go straight to max on the rev limiter!?? Now, it was damp last night, so it could be that the rear wheel was slipping, but it didn't feel like it.
Have any of you guys experienced anything similar...does what I'm saying make any sense? :undecided:
Going try it again tonight, as it looks a bit drier.
don't know why it would do that from just a change of can id it feel like the revs went up or did the gauge go up as could be false reading?
Clutch slip. Stick it on top at low revs and accelerate hard. If the revs shoot up but the speed doesn't then it's likely to be the clutch.

Oooh of course, thanks...you mean stick in top gear? Even I should have thought of that...I imagine I can adjust the cable? How weird it started happening as I changed the exhaust! Crazy coincidence.
TD fast approaching...hope I get it sorted in time.

if the clutch is slipping adjusting the cable is unlikely to fix it unless the reason it's slipping is because the cable has no slack and is not allowing the clucth to be fully home.
I had clutch slip after going for fully synthetic oil. Went back to semi synth and it was fine

Oh great...just what I need before a TD...clutch change!

you and me both mate only happens to me when I push her as hard as she can go and suddenly at about 10k she shoots up but speed doesn't change
as already said, sounds like clutch slip to me.. might be that the extra couple of ponies released by the new exhaust and some enthusiatic riding whilst appreciating the sound tipped it over the edge..
Make sure there is a couple of mm play in the clutch lever and then you know at least it's fully seated and not being held off at all. Might also be worth lubing the clutch cable too if it's a bit stiff it also might be holding the clutch off a bit..
Early signs for me the last clutch I had go was when riding hard over bumps and cats eyes the rear wheel would lose traction and then grip again and the shock through the transmission was enough to make the clutch slip. It'll only get worse once it's started to go.
On the up side a set of friction plates is not going to break the bank (assuming all the springs, pressure plates and clutch basket are still in good order) and if you lean the bike over enough onto the other side you don't even have to drop the oil out.. Just have a new clutch cover gasket to hand in case you damage the old one taking it off but if it's a rubber seal generally you can re-use them no problem... An hours job if you're semi competent with the spanners and everything else is OK..
