Title: Advice on buying a track bike...
Post by: Stuno1 on August 01, 2014, 08:05:01 AM
I have had an offer in my 750 which I simply don't get time to use now the weekends are family time.

I definately want a track bike for next year. Preferably a thou with slipper clutch as found my old 600 wanting on track.

Can I get a decent thou for 3k? How the fook do you know if it's been stolen?? Only buy one with v5 and numbers intact? Luck on if it's bent? Etc

Stu

depends on what you call decent, if I wanted a another dedicated track bike id be looking closer to 5k not three

its a mine field some haven't been road registered so don't have v5 always check frame and engine numbers and always get a signed receipt and ask the seller for id

Do you really want a thou?  More fuel, more tyres etc etc.  It's also much more physical to ride fast, especially on shorter circuits.

£3k is good, you'll get a nice 600 for that.  My mate just bought this for £3k

Not being funny but unless you are front of the fast group you shouldn't find a modern 600 wanting........

As far as what to buy, after being caught out a few years ago I would buy anything but a bike with a V5 and unmolested engine / frame numbers otherwise you can never to sure of it's history.

600 may be enough as I was novice when I had mine on track. 750 on track is spot on.

So 3-4k could see me on a good 600?

Is be looking to buy from here or gixer forum preferably from a member I know ish as well.

Of only there was one for sale on here, or are you after a Kwak?

Did see the yam. After a Kwak being just over 6foot found it the most roomy.

Buy a race bike, it will come with all the bits you need, suspension, slipper clutch etc.  It may be a bit tatty but fairing and paintwork are much cheaper to sort than expensive bits.  You're also likely to get spares, wets on wheels etc with it too.

Have a look at motoforum.net

If a few things fall in to place I'll be looking at marks next week :0)

More interested in buying from someone I can trust than a specific bike. Seems a top spec as well.

I am only mid pack in inters and 6 TD's in to my track fun. Will start with a good 600 like marks and see how I get on. Can always get a thou later on.

Unless you spend all your time at places like Snett and Silverstone I'd bet that the majority of track riders would lap faster - and have more fun - on a 600 / 675 / 750 than a thou.

I ride a 750 at mid pack fast group pace and KNOW that it's not the outright power of my back that's stopping me going faster. Getting rid of my 1000cc track bike was the best thing I did track day wise.

I know M6rk, and I've sold him stuff at a fair price.

If someone accepts a low offer, that's their lookout. I'm pretty sure if you look back at M6's history, all of the bikes he turns over get a good going over and service/tidy before he punts them on.

The first offer should always make the seller wince.
