Whats a decent bike for a first MX bike? Anything to look out for or avoid?

It's in my mate garage near Haslemere, Surrey.  and your right, not really an MX'er, I bought it for green laneing couple of years ago but the whole keeping in my mates garage thing isn't really working so time to sell it on.

I'm going down there next week to clean it / tart it up / charge battery etc....

Daft question but do you actually want a motocross bike for motocross, or just a dirtbike for a bit of offroad fun?  Motocross bikes are designed for one thing, and that is going terrifyingly quick on motocross tracks (and hurting people).  They suck at everything else.  Enduro and Dual Sport stuff us much more forgiving at a more sedate pace.

Where I'm living at the mo, I don't have a garage.

Am thinking to renting a garage, but if I do will get back into track days with trailer.

It would be for proper mx tracks. The thought of broken bones isn't great but I reckon it's worth a few tries :)

125cc two-stroke.  Light, cheap, easy to ride and simple to fix.

Not a bike for a novice MX rider. Have you ridden a 550 aprilia ?

I do but my house with a few steps lower than the pavement with steps upto a busy road.  I did ponder trying to get it up and down over a plank, but due to a hedge I can't see if anyone is walking along the pavement! Had versions of pushing my bike up a plank, into the side of a pram and pushing them into the road....  Either that or just dropping the bike one day!

neither is my mention of the mighty cr500
I have ridden both the sxv550 and the rxv 550 both mental bikes I do agree that they are adamant in attempting to kill novice riders

SXV is an offroad bike because it spends most of its time off the road being fixed...
