So within 3 days i've sold both my r6 trackbike and r6 roadbike..
r6 2004 roadbike bought in 2011 for £2450 with 8k on the clock. Sold yesterday with 16k on the clock for £2700
r6 2004 track bike bought in 2008 for £2600 many many trackdays later sold for £2750
I know i'm amazingly talented when it comes to buying / selling but even so have used prices gone up in the past few years??
in other news an empty garage makes me sad..
ive noticed that aswell and it is summer and its best time to sell
I know, used bikes are really holding their value.
Look at the 2005 ZX6R C1H, you could get them for £5000 on 0% finance in 2006, now they are worth £3000 secondhand!! That's awesome value!
Hold on lads....... I'm about to buy a bike....... prices always inflate when I'm in the market.
Get them sold while you can because as soon as I've bought one, the market will shit itself again.
Every bike I ever want is as rare as rocking horse shit while I'm looking..... as soon as I buy one, you can't give the c*nts away.
prices will be dropping very soon as the weather gets worse

Depends what your after. Try getting some sort of classic and the weather has no effect. I've been looking for a C90 or alike, and even shit non running barn finds with no V5 start at £300 ffs.

I actually did nearly piss myself laughing. Must be age!
M6rk it may have something to do with the prices of new bikes being fucking ridiculous now, pushes up the price of second hand? Or maybe it's got something to do with the time of year, you know, price high because of summer..........
It's because it's summer...drops in the winter.
Maybe it's because you're an awesome buyer and seller man.
Or because it's Summer and prices are higher. They'll be lower in the winter I'd guess...
i was thinking it might be seasonal variation maybe?

*looks round to see whose watching and nods in agreement*
I still maintain it's the way of things due to me being in the market for a new bike, and so the universe has seen fit to inflate prices.
At the exact moment I hand over my cash, you'll all feel a slight shift in the planetary alignment and all of a sudden, used motorcycles will be worth fuck all.
You'll be able to guess which particular model I chose, as people will be weighing band new ones in for scrap value.
in that case now i've sold mine could you buy a daytona 675 please..

The irony with this statement is that the smaller and lighter that your chosen bike is, the less it is worth.
My mate has got a scrap yard dealing with ally/copper/brass/steel/etc. I parked the B1 on his weighbridge to see how heavy it is (wet weight) with a full tank of fuel and he said '£10' as a lump which would have to be split and processed (180kg on the nail)
So that would make a Harley worth about £40
Probably less in winter though...... ;-)
£30 and a packet of hobknobs sounds about right
I read an exclusive in MCN this week that said secondhand bikes sell for more money in the summer.
Could be something to do with that?
Only stupid people buy a new / used bike in Summer.
Just depends whether the price is right or not, taking into account that it is worth a tangible amount to have the benefit of the bike for the best biking months, rather than getting a 'great' deal in December but having it sat in your garage until May depreciating while it is 4 degrees and pissing it down outside.
I bought my Daytona in June 2013, and was completely happy with the transaction.
Although I now urgently need someone to talk me out of the total financial insanity that would be chopping it in for a 899 Panigale...
In Summer...
When they're really scarce at dealerships...
And massively overhyped / jizzed over in the biking press...
And already artificially expensive anyway due to being Ducatis, and therefore bid up by irrational wealthy fool clientele (no offence Komp and other Ducati owners on here ;))...

As a woman, I'm very good at nagging men into not buying things - so if you need someone to talk you out of it, I'm your girl.
Oh, wait - no I'm not - I encourage people to buy things...
DO IT!!!
Wait until approx Dec 23rd and I bet you'd get a great deal on an 899.

They are selling well...local Ducati dealer is very happy with the demand.

I've always subscribed to the mind set that if you want something, and if you can afford it, find a deal you're happy with and buy it.
The rest is vanity.

Well, please indulge me in a little vanity then... just toying with an idea and this site would be a poorer place if one could not do that...

I'm sure we're at cross purposes......
Glad to hear it!
I'd read your reference to vanity along the lines of "if you want it and can afford it, just fuck off and buy it and enough with the "look at me I'm shy and boring somebody please stop me buying a Ducati" shite"!
To which the essence of my response was "well, to some extent perhaps, but this is a bike site after all and I'm just kind of shooting the shit here and indulging in a fantasy that will probably come to nothing, so I hope that people can at least afford me that"!
just buy the damn thing and post the ensuing "the wheels fell off but the dealer gave me a ducati branded golf tee as compensation!" thread here...
(Yes, I am jealous. Yes I want one too)
:embarrassed:
Tuc I didnt read like that at all
I read it as a statement about how dan chooses to buy bikes
rather than worry about time of year, how much someone else could haggle it for and which way the wind is blowing
he would just go pay what he feels is right to pay
hence my +1
are you feeling a bit self concious today tuc?
I have been openly called stupid and an irrationally wealthy fool in this topic thus far by buying a ducati in june
aaahhhh we're definitely at cross purposes dear boy and I'm sorry that you read it that way.
this was more a dig at my dear friend Moz and his "stupid people buy bikes in summer" comment.
indulge....shoot shit.... you'll get nothing but support from me!!
:thumbleft:
:)
Agree with indulge away...it's good to bat ideas around...I'm with Dan...I buy on the basis that I am happy in my mind with a deal...as for your purchase you are correct too...the 899 Panigale is definetly too expensive for the sum of its parts...but the hype and marketing men AND the Designers have all gelled and made a winner...so you buy with the heart and leave the head at home.
Just be aware that prices do attract a summer weighting as opposed to a winter keeness, although the riding experience may be reduced in winter overall.
Hey, hang on a minute, if you had a big enough place to store them, you could arbitrage this, buying bikes in the Winter and selling them in the Summer.
Or what about a big boat? Buy 'em here in Winter and ship the damn things to Oz?
Or I suppose you could just nick them here in Winter and ship them to St Helena on a pallet...
so basically just sell it to me cheap, be sure to post about how awesome your ducarteee is and i'll post about what a bargain I got.. then wait till moz says something about them all being shit and how he's a pilot and awesome and you really want an xyz.. then pj will post something about leg hair removal, then dan will post something suitably dry, carbon might chime in with a joke he found in a christmas cracker and thus the equilibrium will be restored.

Brill  I think we need a separate thread on summing up other ninjas...'Ninjas in a Nutshell'!
Anything you try and flog for obscene profit is shit M6rk............
Is this what you meant?
;)
Everything that Moz hasn't chosen to buy, or ask loads of questions about without buying is shit.
More like that ;)
This thread has entertained me highly, its a bit like the old days, thank you :-)
I just hate the fuckin Eagles man
