Who here has been on a bikesafe course with there local police? What did you think of it? worthwhile and fun?
I was lucky enough to do an assessed ride with one of the Met police's top riders. He's the guy that taught Prince William and his RPOs to ride as well as being one of his "shadows".
I rode one of their Blackbirds around Snowdonia for a day and found the whole experience hugely worthwhile. Doesn't matter what you think of the police, most of their riders will be the most skilled guys on two wheels you'll meet. Well worth it.
Sounds good Moz! It wont be a blackbird in snowdonia for me, it will be a zxr on the isle of wight but still! Its between the bikesafe course or some kevlar jeans for a late birthday pressie and I'm leaning towards the bikesafe course. Better to not fall off than to fall off in nice jeans!
It's on my list if things to do. I should imagine I'd learn a lot.
I have done a lot of police run courses and always find them excellent with good feedback on your riding etc.
Well worth doing mate.
I thought Bikesafe was alright, as far as it went, but the day I spent with a serving Class 1 police motorcycle cop in his off-duty capacity via http://rapidtraining.co.uk/ (http://rapidtraining.co.uk/) was much better.
Covered a lot more ground, was a lot more challenging and I was allowed - indeed encouraged - to ride at a pace realistic to what I would do on the road, rather than being told to stick to the speed limits and 'slow down' still being the first bit of feedback on the debrief (and I am not a fast rider).
Have since done another day with them.
The most value I got from advanced training was a day riding with TC.
Did Bikesafe before that on a ZX10R, but the assessed ride was a short course of about 15 miles, and the coppers instruction was to not break any limits. Most of the ride was in 50 limits and heavy traffic which was also doing the posted limit. I learned little from that exercise.
I've done a day with TC also, and I fully second that, Ash - it was a bloody good day - similar format and content to the Rapid Training day.
