I did the BMW Off Road Skills course level one in South Wales at the weekend as a bit of a change from track days.
Not cheap, but I very much enjoyed it, particularly after we got through the basic drills on the car park and started riding some of the trails on their 4,000 acre park.
Seems pretty nuts riding a 5 tonne R1200GS along a muddy footpath, but it seemed to work better than my instincts initially suggested it might.
Quite fancy doing a bit more of this sort of shizznit, although I imagine that the difficulty in sunny Hertfordshire is going to be finding anywhere that you're allowed to.
Love the idea of trying off-road, but I feel the bike would spend more time on its side than on its tyres...!

Everyone was falling off all over the shop.
I think the instructors basically did not consider that they were doing their job unless by the end of the two days they'd found trails that had caused everyone in the group to lose it at least once.
I properly fell off once on the first day and twice on the second day. I fell off for a third time on the second day in a half-arsed fashion due to pissing about, which I am not counting!
And I reckon I probably fell off second least in my group of 6.
I've never understood the attraction of taking a GS or a big KTM Adventure off road. Yes they are designed for that but there was no way on earth I was going to take my £13k KTM off tarmac and risk dropping it left right and centre.
Thats what my EXC450 is for.

Need to organise another day out with Excess Energy but it needs to be much colder and wetter yet.

We did a days green laning from Verwood up onto Salisbury Plain.
About 100 miles of easy laning in February after about a month of rain.
Had a great time, Neil rode three quarters of the day with a nearly broken ankle. Hero.
