No More Superbikes for KTM – CEO Says They're Too Dangerous For Public Roads (http://therideadvice.com/no-more-superbikes-for-ktm-ceo-says-theyre-too-dangerous-for-public-roads/) :(
They're happy for you to throw yourself at the scenery on the superduke though. Odd
Or in other words, too much horsepower, but not enough talent....
as the article itself states the 1290 produces more bhp than the RC8
maybe they just dont sell that many RC8's anymore? smoke and mirrors and all that?

Personally I'd say that's more likely. The notion of a responsible company not wanting to put the public at risk, and not selling us their product is all sweet and lovely but it's far more likely that if they could shift the RC8 by the bucket load, they'd happily take our cash. The RC8 is no more likely to end bent around a tree than an R1.
Of course there is the other angle, emissions laws may mean the RC8 powerplant is just too expensive to develop to keep it within the regs going forward.
Shame as a 1290 RC8R would be epic.
Still one of the best bikes I've owned. I will mourn its passing.

its a shame always thought they wore cracking bikes
I think the love affair with big Sportsbikes is over, globally. I doubt it's worth KTM investing the money to develop the RC8.
