Want to get a PC for my FZ8 to get rid o the annoying 'emissions' flat spot around 4.5k in the rev range and make the most of my K&N air filter and Exhaust can.
Is there any great benefit in having a PC5 over the older PC3 USB version ?
Been trying to find the relative specs and options of each but not having alot of luck finding the PC3 USB specs to compare the PC5 with.
Anyone upgraded from 3 to 5 ? I'm assuming that there are more features on the 5 with increased adjustment ranges just thinking is it worth it for a standard road bike ?
Any input welcome..

Look into ECU re-flashing rather than a PC.
I've had the R1's done to YEC spec and the difference was amazing. Much better than any PC with custom map I've ever had and alot cheaper.
Im not sure if it would cover your model but Google Velox Racing and see what they offer or contact Dave Wood MCs in Aylesbury as I'm sure he offers a remap/re-flash service too as opposed to a PC.
My re-flash cost me £162 inc return postage for my ECU to Velox. Turn around was 4 days.
Can't recommend this enough.

+1
I've not personally experienced this but I've heard nothing but good things about the Flashtune type ECU service offered by them.
After I posted this I did give myself a kick not to be so lazy and go and find out.
So I called DWR in Aylesbury and at this moment in time they cannot flash the ECU in the FZ8 directly as there's not enough demand for the company to create the software to do it..
He also recommended PC3 over PC5 as the 5 is much more complecated to set up and in his opinion, does not offer any real advantages over the PC5 in the real world of average guy on the road..
thanks
just contacted Velox racing too...
Site seems to indicate they can do the FZ8 but lets se what they come back with...
cheers

The control on the stock ECU which is accessible by things like flashtune are the dogs. We should be clear that you've not got a YEC ecu now (reprogrammable via a laptop, full control etc) -- but a stock ecu with a better "setup" with less focused on the tree huggers etc and maybe some of the safety features wound back a bit.
Flashtune is great, however the challenge is that the complexity of the stock ECU means that it takes some considerable time for new "generic" maps to become available. To give you an idea, the yamaha ecu maps for fueling have a map per cylinder, per injector, per 5% of throttle (4 x 8 x 20 = 640 maps !) so whereas with a PC5 you have a map for all cylinders at every 5% of throttle -- 20 maps vs. 640. You then also have ignition and timing maps ..Clearly you an see why it takes a massive investment for race shops to get a decent ECU reflash map available. There is a benefit - once the investment is made its just churn it out and of course, its not easy for someone to reverse engineer the new flashed map from the stock ECU.
There is a downside -- you cant take it with you (unlike a PC5) ... but the benefits of a reflashed ECU (or kit ECU) are way way better than a PC5/Bazzaz etc etc !
just keep the revs over 5000
I know I haven't got a YEC ECU but an ECU reflashed to a map similar to a map found on racing R1s of my vintage. Perfect for a road bike where I clearly do not want to constantly change it!
PC's are no better as many are bike specific meaning there is no advantage moving from bike to bike unless you opt for exactly the same model again and even then the map is highly unlikely to suit it perfectly.

PC5 and SFM are generic, only the loom differs .. but your point around changing the map (and cost associated) are entirely valid :-)
thanks guys..
lets see what Velox come back with. Failing that it's PCIII with a custom map and despite it's limitations is still gonna be better that what I have now..

I do mostly... but you do have to slow down occasionally...
