I'm in the market for a new lid and generally find that Shoei and Arai lids fit me well.
From the days of my original Wayne Rainey Shoei rep I've always enjoyed wearing helmets that are good quality, fit well but also look good. Lets face it, anything that covers my bonce is an improvement.
Why is it that it is only the £600+ Arai and AGV's that have good design these days? Shane Byrne rep (and maybe Bradley Smith but I can't wear a St George on me napper) aside, there are no decent reps.
Hats off to AGV for their K3 (I think) series, great graphics but the overall quality is not what I'm looking for.
What lids are you folks looking at currently? I need insperation.
Thanks.
Buy a plain one Jarse and get it painted to your own design.
i had been buying sharks, found the quality good for £200 (£600 is too rich for me) and had some great designs
but last one i bought was a piece of shit. they changed the model and the quality too
I really fancy the dovi lid that i am currently using in my profile pic, but never had a suomy lid before and cant find anywhere round here that sells them to check the sizing, so still yet to purchase
It's crossed my mind MOz. I have no fixed design but could work something up given my dim and distant graphic design background.
Guess it would be an expensive option though.
I've not seen Suomy's for sale in years! Fancied a Ben Bostrum rep years back but never bought one.
Shame the Sharks have gone down hill, some not bad designs out there but not tried one on.
I've just been through the exact same process.. It's taken me a few weeks and a couple of hours in shops trying on helmets.
The best of Shoei designs for me was the Beaufighter on the NXR but I wasn't 100% sold on it but it was starting to look like the best of a bad bunch. None of the Arai designs really floated my boat. There was a AGV K3 design I liked but as you say the quality was not up there and I could not wear my glasses with it. I also looked at X-lite 802r but again could not were my glasses with it.
In the end I have ended up buying a Shark Speed R in the Craig WKR colour scheme. Fit is great, my local shop is an official dealer and I like the colour sheme and the slightly squarer shape over a 'normal' shape..
I would disagree with the comments on the quality of the Shark hemets, they look to be very good with very good reviews on the latest models.. Go take a look for yourself..
I thought it would be easy spending 3 or 400 quid on a lid but it's taken ages....
Aye the choice of good designs is low. Not one Arai rep I liked the look of when i was in the market for a new helmet last year. Shoei are very limited too. Went for a matt black shoei in the end. If only Arai brought out a Walker rep.
Arai have a better choice of designs in America. Pick one up when you are over there. :moto:

best rep ive ever owned shame I smashed it!!
The Hizzy and Stalker reps are iconic but are also totally minging shit designs.
This was always one of my favourites for obvious reasons - shame a Shoei never fit me but I do have his KBC version.

Have to disagree on the Stalker one, love my one and would love an updated Arai version, not a KBC though.
Plenty to choose from here....

Have bought from them before and had good service.
Quite fancy the Mamola rep as a bit of old skool.

There is nothing wrong with the hizzy!

Yes there is (in my opinion).
The Haggis looks shit, the pink is horrendous linked with the stupid sky blue "chainsaw".
Legendary riders like Hizzy and Stalker deserve better lids!
Classic designs like the Mamola, Joey Dunlop and Luca Cadalora's old lid look much better.
my only issue with replica helmet designs is I'm never gonna ride like those guys so why would I want to look like them ??
And personally I find alot of them too garish for my taste..
2p.
my personal choice but it costs more than a lot of peoples bikes

I opted for the Haslam WSBK rep lid, not because I have a hard on for Leon, but I spotted it and loved it. But yeah, the £500 price tag was a little tough to take, but no other lid fits my noggin as well.

that was cheap I paid closer to £700 for my hizzy
Mine was priced up at £699 but I sucked through my teeth a few times and she lowered it to £499 :-)

No, but they like it - they did ask what special needs toddler created the Walker and Hizzy helmets though.
Just bought this. Haz a pretty pic on it and flashy shiny light thingys. Fits well too.

Looks ok that.....
I like those shark skwal lids but wonder how visible the lights are. If a driver doesn't see your front/rear headlights, i doubt they'd see a little LED ob a lid. But happy to be proven wrong
