Starting the ball rolling so I can plan accordingly, we normally say last Saturday of the month, next year that's the 30th meaning it becomes a bank holiday weekend for us southerners potentially giving us an extra play day :)
Am I right in my thinking or will it be the 23/24th ??
I'm in as long as I don't do anything fooking stupid again .
I'm not one of the Scottish Leaders....but it certainly looks like the 30th is the LAST Saturday of the Month...and them was the rules set by the Home rulers... ;) :moto:
I can only go if I don't mention the B word
I'd suggest that you are very much a Scottish leader Alzo and indeed, if the 30th is the last Saturday in April then there we have it. The fact it suits our much loved and respected friends from South of the Border only makes it all the better.
2016 will make it 10 years since Greig's passing so lets make it a special one. Maybe fate that it has landed on the Bank Holiday weekend.
Sounds like a plan... should be back in next year!

Go on then, remind my ageing brain, "B word" ?
I dared to mention the word Bacon and got flame grilled for it. I'm nae welcome nae more.

just been onto the Premier Inn site and the waterfront premier is showing as unavailable if you only select two nights, if you select three nights then it shows availability ... No deal prices yet and works out as £201 currently
Woo hoo, just found out it's on a Bank Holiday, think I may stay on for another evening of drinking and head back on the Monday...
will hopefully be able to attend after missing this years
Alright guys and girls,
Well, judging how you guys seemed very amenable to me being there on 4 wheels again last weekend, I think it would be rude not to, especially with it being the 10 year.
It's Ems birthday on the 30th too, you'll be acceptable company for a night out on the piss.
So, I shall be there with bells on, and if I've sold the 5eb by then, maybe a supercharger as well.....

Premier Inn BOOKED :azn:
I'm booked in Uddingston.
Are people doing 2 or 3 nights? I was thinking of doing 3 and maybe going to that castle thing on the hill on the Sunday.
I'm booked Fri to Sun in the Leith Waterfront Premier Inn
3 nights for me. Maybe more.
Big Al spoke of him doing the Saturday night in Aviemore or Blairgowrie. I will be returning to Edinburgh on the Saturday as per normal. It is not a Bank Holiday for me on the Monday, so unless I take it off as a holiday I will be working on the Monday. I can be convinced to take the holiday with temptations of alcohol and laughs. The last couple of years we have went to The Starbank on the Friday, and Kushis on the Saturday. Unless anyone wants a change I am happy to go with those arrangements. Will be looking for numbers shortly too.
I also have less parking for bikes than in previous years. No empty lock ups. So there is only the big garage available. I know most of you parked at the hotel last year, but just to give folk a heads up.

I'm booked in for 3 nights but it will all depend on my childcare, and what my pilot is doing

No just me mate. Steff doesn't want to come all that way on the back and it's a tad cramped with us both on it. I'll be up on the Friday and heading back on the Sunday so will be joining everyone on the Fri/Sat nights :)
It seems the route we take from Callendar to Lix Toll is now a 50mph Zone forever...utter bastards.
Plenty quick enough
For cyclists it is.
27 miles. It's not as though the other speed limits are stuck to. Unless they have average speed cameras it's just another area to be extra cautious in. BASTARDS.
I will be doing 50ish in that area. 😉
Yeah but 80 in a 60 is better than 80 in a 50...in the Judges eyes anyway...it's pish...pure and utter pish...am giving up... :(
Fit a cardboard number plate and you'll be fine.
Avoid Callander and go via Crieff, St Fillans.??

Just to double-check, is this on the weekend of the 30th/31st?
Last Saturday in April...from here until eternity. Saturday the 30th is the Ride out day.
Hi All,
I was supposed to be on holiday this weekend but going to go a bit later in the week so might be able to come along. I know it's probably in here somewhere but can someone give me a brief idea of timings and locations for the ride out etc. Coming up from Manc and don't really have to funds to stay over in a hotel so just want to see if it's doable.
Much love
G
It's the last Saturday in April...30th. Most arrive on Friday and stay in leith Premier Inn. Meal arranged for Friday and Saturday so the sooner you say aye the better. Green Ninja would be better placed to give you their travel arrangements should you wish to travel up with average company.
Cheers Alzo,
GN & PJ are you both riding up on Friday? After work or in the daytime?
If you wouldn't mind a tag along up and back I'll have a look and see costs of accommodation and see if it's a goer.
the northern lot usually head up in the morning, and take the scenic route to Leith
arrive arvo/early evening. i have managed to meet up with them on occasion.
Ill be doing the whole trip from essex on the friday this year, in past have broken up
its a lot of miles journey (for most) and rideout combined so accommodation is essential

we ride up during the day Friday meeting other folk on the way up, makes it part of the weekend. The premier at Leith is good value but I don't know if the offers are still on. If you don't mind sharing a room there may be room with me.
I'll be riding up from Gloucester early doors on Friday and heading towards Hawes. I tend to go a completely random route though and it takes all day to get there. I don't tend to meet up with the others as I'm not there in time.
I'll be meeting everyone at Hawes as per normal :moto: can't wait

Has anyone got a list of the places we stop at on the way? Guy at work wants to plot a similar route up and I'd be quite keen on sharing it on a map too.
I'm assuming its roughly the same as this :
Quote
Hawes, Middleton in Teesdale, Alston, Chollorford, Kielder, Bonny bridge, Hawick, Selkirk, Galashields the Edinburgh:-)
With a lunch stop at the falstone cafe (I'll contact cafe and let them know to expect a coach load)
Petrol at Alston and the tescos on the a7 just south of the Edinburgh bypass
Cheers!
Not long now! This weather better improve!

looking at going, hawes, kirkby Stephen, brough, middleton in teesdale,alston..then towards to hexam & up towards chollerton, onto A68,then do lunch at the pub we've stopped at before, think it's the Ryedale arms??
then on towards Scotland on the route we did last year.
looking forward to seeing everyone again
oh & I've ordered a larger number plate for this years ride out!! lol

     you bad man
Legal plated fitted to mine as well, although that turned into having to fit longer indicators, which turned into me blowing a fuse, so yeah, all fun and games lol
what is all the plate changing all about?
i hadnt planned to touch mine

I have a feeling that in previous years the plod have been extra sensitive to small plates and loud cans.....
hmm
not had any issues in all the times I have been up there
although was last there july 2014
my plate isnt tiny, just a little smaller im sure it will be fine :police:
Ask Foo how fine it was.
Foo didn't get stopped for her plate.
My mistake, thought the plate had something to do with it.

Foo was alleged to have crossed a white line and then everyone got clobbered for whatever the PoPo could find

ah we should be fine then, foo will be on the other side of the border
Errrrr I might be making an appearance   just need to get childcare sorted
So sort your fucking number plates out!! :moto:
mines arrived, least it has a kite mark this time & is an inch bigger all round,lol...won't make a lot ofdifference if I get stopped again though!! :embarrassed:
myself, chris & Al are doing a tour northwards from Edinburgh on the sunday..
Is it wrong that I packed the bag 3 weeks ago
With the Zed in my stable now I am actually looking forward to the miles in relative comfort rather than having to fight the wind all the way and having my legs in a sports crouch, trade off will be not quite as nimble but the engine more than makes up for it.
My trip starts on Weds so feels like a proper holiday too. Looking forward to seeing all you distinctly average people again.
I'm thinking of going on the Explorer for the comfort, plus in reality it's not much slower on the roads than the Beemer

Do it, go on go on... You coming home sun or Mon??
I'm coming back on the Monday as I fancy a bit of sight seeing on the Sunday, k=kelpies, falkirk wheel or the castle, that type of thing. What about you?
Yep booked in room till Monday, can join you and some company on way home if you fancy
Sounds like a plan
me,chris & al are on about doing a bit of a tour as well.
I'm off work till weds,so planning on coming home on the Monday.
weather on Friday is looking bloody shit!! snow & sleet in the morning on way to alston.it's already snowed in weardale I believe.so if it's bad while we're in hawes, then I might suggest a route change & go back towards leyburn & jump on A1 to durham then onto A68
Saturday thankfully doesn't look to bad though
fingers are definitely crossed
Every app on my phone says the whole weekend's gonna be big washout, but that could change overnight! :)

Oh Joy piss wet through on the way home as well as the way up AGAIN
Thunder lightning and massive hail stones here currently! I hope they melt!
Blue skies here:-)
Just about all loaded! Shame I've got a couple of hrs at work tomorrow
Snow warnings here in Warrington and severe snow alerts for south eastern Scotland!!
I'm gonna make a call in the morning whether I risk it on the bike or drive up. I'm gonna be there one way or another.
Saturday is awesome....so bike... ;)

Only if we make it there! The weather is looking horrendous!
Weather looks ok for the Saturday but it's looking utterly horrific for the ride up, dangerously bad at the moment :(
Van hire. ;)

Haha seriously though as much as it'll piss me off missing the Saturday ride I'm gonna have to make a judgement call in the morning on the weather. I don't mind rain but the forecast has snow and bad driving condition the entire way of our journey at the moment.
It's horrendous. ;)
I remember the last time I rode in snow.
I do too, but it wasn't on the ground thankfully lol
It's looking likely I'll be coming up in the car at the moment.
Pussy 😉
Perhaps! But I don't fancy doing 140miles to the meeting point on my own in snow and sleet and rain with little idea where the fuck I'm going :-p
Only 140? Luxury
I'll see what it's like in the morning but it's not looking like weather I fancy that length of ride in!
no snow on the a1 north of wetherby , although the m62 was pretty rough last night :)
Al and Iain are heading up by car so I made the choice to drive as I didn't feel confident getting to the lunchtime meeting spot on my own on potentially crap weather.
Me and Steff will be on our way up soon.
Carter bar on the A68 is only passable with care at the moment. Stay safe all.
What a lovely journey it has been, I mean I got to see some beautiful snow covered scenery in those moments I could see lol, Also had better be getting the coffee in ;)
Overall had some good moments, some very very cold ones and a bloody puncturing a week old tyre Grrrr but I am here ably supported by Timmmaayyyy especially as he didn't do a runner whilst I got my tyre sorted..
Home safe and sound, another great turn out and thankfully less eventful than the last 2 years:-)
After Friday's snow showers and heavy heavy rain at the border on the a1, the rest of the weekend has been great:-)
Love that view over rannoch with the snow on the tops
Beers, food, and piss taking top class
Thanks to everyone
For those who have not seen this elsewhere here is a review of the trip put together.

Great turnout given challenging conditions / forecast but as usual the Saturday weather was glorious - Looked stunning
As already said on the other thread, great weekend, thanks to all who organise it! Pics uploaded here - https://www.flickr.com/gp/31045326@N02/R23L03
Great video, Al! :thumbleft:
