Well the ktm has had her first proper ride and she handled everything I chucked at her from very fast corners to 60mph down a bridleway with 2ct tyres on her , I do feel like I've been spoilt speed wise with the sports bikes as she does run out of steam but give her the beans and up to 70mph she's a rocket
No faults have really risen I have to push the starter button approximately 3 times to start her as the first just cuts , so possible starter motor fault ,brake disk I think is warped as when stoping it feels like I keep letting go slightly then puting it back on, and I may need to tighten the headrace but it may be the disc giving that illusion, only thing it needs doing is suspension hardened up and I need to some how make it louder all in all the 2005 640 sm gets a thumbs up I'm very happy with her :afro:

there is a strong chance I may very well do!
I did however get it into my head that the 950/990 would feel more like a naked than a moto which put me off a bit
Down a bridleway?
I should hope not.

Just for the record. A 640sm and 950sm. Are not really supermotos. I think the term is street motos

I blew up a 550 sxv!! so the theme is if you can ride it more than 20 hours without needing at least a new piston its not a real supermoto? ill keep my faux moto :)
What is a supermoto?
Weren't they motocross bikes with road wheels fitted originally?
If that's the case only one of those photos is a true supermoto Tel.
2 are converted enduro bikes, 2 are purpose built race motos both road registered.
You do have a point moz

Terry, what's a good wheel to look for going SM? Fancy some for my wr450!

Machines
Prior to the 1990s, supermoto bikes, including the precursor motorcycles used in Superbikers, were converted open-class two-stroke motocross or enduro bikes desired for their light weight and jumping abilities. The motorcycles currently used for Supermoto racing are predominantly single-cylinder four-stroke powered dirtbikes with 17-inch (430 mm), sometimes with 16.5-inch (420 mm) front wheels. The 17-inch (430 mm) wheels allow the use of up to 7.0-inch-wide (180 mm) superbike road racing slick tires. These are often hand-grooved on the rear tire to facilitate slightly better acceleration on the dirt stretches of a supermoto course. Suspension is lowered and slightly stiffened in comparison with a stock dirt bike, and braking power is improved with oversize front brake rotors and calipers. Despite the lack of trees on supermoto courses, hand guards are frequently added to supermoto bikes due the extreme cornering angles achieved by riders. Hand guards also greatly improve survivability of the brake & clutch levers during a fall making supermoto bikes highly crash resistant and often able to quickly re-enter the fray during a race following a crash.
In 1991, Italian manufacturer Gilera released the 'Nordwest' model, the first factory produced supermoto. Other European manufactures quickly followed suit, among them KTM, Husqvarna, Husaberg and CCM; all manufacturers whose emphasis were off-road models at the time. Models were developed for both track and road use. It took another ten years, until the mid-2000s for Japanese manufacturers, such as Yamaha (2004), Honda (2005) and Suzuki (2005) to start introducing supermoto models in the European market. Most of the supermoto bikes sold to the public are more domesticated models for road use rather than outright racing, for example the Suzuki DR-Z400SM.
Apex raceway supermoto
Due to the popularity, versatility, excitement and durability of these motorcycles, some owners modify them for street use. In order to do this, headlights, tail lights, horn, mirrors and street-legal tires among other occasional modifications are needed. Some state motor vehicle departments take a dim view of turning off-road bikes into street legal bikes, such as California which requires an on-road emissions designation from the manufacturer. In Europe most Supermotos are sold street legal from the factory and later tuned for race use. Supermoto type bikes make excellent city-goers as their upright seating position provides great visibility in traffic. Their narrow frames and light weight also make them incredibly maneuverable, as well as easier to ride in twisty or less than ideal road conditions that force most sportbike riders to slow down.

Awesome.
Seems to be rare as though, either tatty as shit or asking the earth for them.
Will keep eyes out!
been out on her again today she didn't want to start battery didn't seem to have enough juice had to boost it off a car battery and she fired up is it normal for a brand new battery to loose that much charge in a week of not being used?
love the bike just fitted my tomtom to her and I'm thinking of possibly hard panniers........
back brakes a bit lethal though locks up with minimal effort bet its fun on dirt
Have I read that right?
You're thinking of hard panniers and sat nav for your 640 Supermoto? Suggesting serious mileage?
That is a bit like buying a JCB to use as a Golf buggy or a reliant robin to tow an artic trailer.
I'd suggest you bought the wrong bike for touring

I wouldn't say serious millage as I don't ride it very much ive gone off the hard luggage when I looked at the prices , but my tomtom has saved me many times , and only looks a tad out of place , I'm planning on running it till it blows but ive spoken to a couple of people that have had there engine into the 40k's without engine work so its clearly possible

40k are you sure ;)
What ive been told , not what you have heard? In your opinion how long do you think they last?
Plan that trip to MotoGP at Jerez on it now!
In one pannier you could put a tool kit and in the other you could keep the extra pistons and heads you'll need to do the engine rebuilds en route. I'd suggest taking five or six, because you'll be able to buy the ones you'll need for the return trip in Spain....
:(...........................
The second someone starts referring to a bike or car as 'she', I stop reading.
Attempted to go to Brighton today but ended up turning round half way as the bearings felt loose , I tell you something it handles with the 2ct tyres on the lean angles!! I nearly fell off I went so low , how ever while giving it full beans it lost power momentarily ya know revs go up and you dont go any faster etc? Anyone know what its likely to be and should I worry?

How fast were you going and in which gear?
It could be something as simple as the clutch cable needs adjusting (you hope)
I think I was in 5th not sure how fast but I was accelerating as hard as it would go
Sounds selector forky to me, under heavy load/acceleration it makes itself apparent.

Cheap bike from eBay ends up being expensive shocker.

didn't think its was quite as fruity as the RC8?
Probably better to Streetfighter an RC8....no electronics to interfere...the 1290's is flawed apparently.
I do agree about the bars. Will be giving it a run out this weekend. Report to follow.
Lower bars, more stickers and no TT. He has changed the gearing, 1 down on the front, 3 up on the rear. Should be a crazy ride.
