Howdy all. So I broke down on the way home the other day ;-(
The AA fast charged me and I got the remaining 25 miles home but I now need to identify the problem.
I have done a little research and it looks like the stator or rectifier will be at fault.
I know to put a multimeter across the battery to check what charge is being added and that is should be on in the 14 or 15 range but does anyone know how I can identify which part to replace? Or is it blind luck?
Can't help really, but that being said there was a recall on certain 04 models for a dodgy stator I believe.

What does the reg/rec look like? Is it a sealed plastic box style or metal finned looking effort? If the plastic style then you can probably tell by looking at it if it's gone pop as the casing would more than likely have a bulge on the front of it.

was never a recall .. it was a extended warranty for the stator winding ... the extended warranty for a rr4 model expired 3-4 years ago
(problem corrected on 06-07 models winding... believe it was the air gap on the 04-05 was too small)
had a failure on an 04 blade... a couple of months after the extended warranty expired :( (honda weren't interested)
across the battery you should see 14.6-14.7 volts dc when reving between 3000-4000rpm if all is ok
if all is not ok
you need to unplug the stator from the rectifier and test for 60v AC across the three outputs from the stator to see if the winding has failed .. failed winding is most likely ... you've most likely been running on just two outputs for a while
i fitted a replacement stator from wemoto and also replaced the rectifier for a mosfet based one at the same time (outputs 14.7 at all revs and runs cooler than the shunt design of rectifer fitted as oem) ..i need the bike 100% for a road trip at the time so replaced both

Mine is only 11.7/8 so deffo a charging issue, revving makes no difference either....time to start swapping out parts....
If you need help or need to order parts etc, then have a chat with Dan at BikeMoto in Hilsea. He's a Honda 'master mechanic' and knows Hondas inside out (I got him to do a few bits on the RR). He also done a few seasons clubman racing too, and is dead keen to chew the fat on all things bike.
A proper little independant place who also do MOTs too.

Anything under 12 is a worry but saying that my ytz10s battery puts out over 13 volts disconnected and I believe you may have same batt

Test the winding next.... normally when a rectifer fails it ends up dumping to much voltage into the curcuit... killing the battery (warping plates)... burning connectors and can even melting the insulation off the wiring loom ... good chance you only need to replace the winding
You can visually check the winding.. its easy to see if its failed..(but easier to check for 60v ac... ) will have a bit that is burnt and black on the winding
(Mine shorted and ignited hot gases in the crank case.. blew a little hole in the generator covers instant gasket.. along with engulfing me in comedy/cartoon style white smoke)
I've looked up a video for testing the Rectifier and Stator and it looks easy enough. My Cousin in laws a mechanic so will go to him after that. I think it will be the stator too...

Gave it to the mechanic for the final part in the end who is also my wifes cousin:-). He gets EA games from me cheap so has to be nice to me :-)
