Title: mityvac anyone rate them?
Post by: komp on January 11, 2017, 12:18:28 PM
anyone had much joy using a mityvac?
was bleeding brakes on the 899 at weekend as part of its winter service, and thought i would finally get the mityvac out of its box
but really struggling to get anything that resembles a vacuum formed, i could hear air escaping all over when pumping
in the end abandoned and resorted to just bleeding normally
just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or just me?

Mine does feel a bit loose as the bits push together, but I only use it to get fluid through the system then always finish tweaking the nipples by hand to firm things up fnarrr.

to be honest I wasn't bleeding system from dry, maybe then it would have come into its own.
just couldn't feel any thing resembling a vacuum when pumping the little lever.

Had the same feel but when you lift the rubber cap off the nipple you can hear if there is a slurp.

I also put a bit of PTFE tape on the thread of the nipple to avoid sucking air past.

Sorry, I am not trying to make this smutty honest.

Next time i will listen out for the sound of slurping nipples
appeared to be no suction at all when removed, but maybe i didnt pump enough
;)

I have one, it's great but as Dom says they can suck air from outside down the thread and back out but for getting the fluid in there and going it's great. I always finish it off by hand, so to speak.

Use the pump to get it as firm as you can, but always finish off by hand.
Snigger.
