Umm as the title says, I am thinking of getting a road going B1H mainly for a track bike but also with the ability to take on the road if needs be.
I assume many on here have had a B1H as a track bike? any good? good points bad points etc. I know they are hard on the road but thoughts on them for use on the track is what I am after.
Mate, i had a B1H as a road bike and a K1 as a track bike. For the money they are really really good. They handle well and there are loads of spares available for them. Theres loads of set ups available for each track. I sold my K1 a couple of years ago with loads of spares, kit ECU, wets on wheels, etc etc. Now that i sold the ZX10r i would consider getting another B1 K1 for track.

Whats a K1 BTW, forgive my ignorance. Ive heard of the B1, C1, P7F etc etc.
the k1 is the 600cc version of the b1h , as it needed to be a lower displacement for racing
Also known as the ZX6-RR. Quite rare and very collectible if you can find one in good road trim.
The K1 was very tuneable (and compliant with Supersport rules) but I reckon you'd be better off with a B1 for just a trackday hack. That's if you could even find a K1. The engines are very different from memory.
All of them are getting on a bit though.

Yes, the K1 is very hard to find. Seen a few B1's that aren't cosmetically great and therefore a bit cheaper. that said ive seen a potential in a dealer in Manchester for less than 3K with a few nice touches. custom paint job etc. I think I will set my budget at £3K for a track B.
Back in the day they were a real weapon and even now on twisty circuits they'll be great. The standard shock really isn't up to the job on track even for slow group riders. Jack the back, drop the front and they turn incredibly.
Bit long in the tooth now though, so finding a straight one may prove challenging. Plus they'll be seriously down on power nowadays.
I'd give serious consideration to a 749, now they DO handle from the crate and decent ones could be had for your budget..........

body work , and reconnect wires , lights etc

only thing its missing is maybe one or two standard type bolts and it needs a new ram air intake as i broke it, its just chucked at the back of garage atm , got 28k miles on it , has slipper clutch fitted , gillies rear sets , full race akrapovic
its pretty tatty , but mechanically there was nothing wrong with it at all
Considering the various tech help threads, it would take a brave, brave person to buy a bike from Carbon!
Once back together is it likely. O pass an MOT? Where are you based ?

{insert object} worked perfectly fine before I took it apart/smashed it up/left it abandoned
never smashed it up , its not a crashed bike , i stole half the performance parts off it and put low mile origional parts back on it
They were intended as a general delete as applicable, not directly accusatory
decent winter project but if Carbon's worked on it, assume you need to pull it to pieces and start from frame up.
same for any bike you know has been messed with I suppose, but this young man has form......
and ive always managed to put things back together , what needs doing , m/c fittings and brakes pled , healight , indicators plugging in , body work fitting , and thats about it
Really decent track bike. And even though down on HP compared to newer bikes they are more than enough for tracking.
Rear shock is way over sprung and generally awful on the road. I replaced mine with a WP and it really settles the bike down. Forks needed stiffer springs for me. Once you get a bit of pace I found it very prone to locking up the back tyre on downshifts and would skip and bounce about, so added a slipper clutch. Brake pads are quite expensive as it's got 4 pads per calliper. Needs a quick action throttle to make getting it pinned easier. Steering damper is advisable even if the shock is replaced.
Sorry to bring this thread back up but......if anyone was still after a ZX6RR K1 track bike, the guy that bought mine had messaged me asking if i am interested in buying the bike back for £2000, and comes with everything i sold it to him for minus the 6rr engine (it has the 636 engine fitted).
It comes with spare wets on wheels with discs, spare wet tyres. It has a PCIII, Ohlins rear shock, Ohlins steering damper, Akky end can, Brembo 19x20 MC, V5, 4954 miles. I sold it to him for £2500 so not a bad deal. If anyone wants his number, i can pass it on. He lives in Portsmouth.
