Well that time of year and I'm feeling the itch and starting to consider changing the bike, last year saw me decide that the GSXS was still the right bike for me so after not enough miles again this year I'm back to trying stuff out:
The Candidates
In the Green Corner we have the 2020 Z1000SX, performance tourer is probably the spec love the looks, pillion seat looks like it will be decent and I think I will definitely like it a lot
In the Blue corner is the R1250 RS (or do I just go GS) Exclusive spec probably , looks lovely, engine is very very nice, should be decent with a pillion with the electronic suspension and the brakes are stonking..
In the Orange corner the Superduke GT makes a case for hooligan engine and I'm told it is actually a decent pillion bike, great spec but huge huge price
In the Red corner the Multistrada rears its head but do I go 950 because tbh it is probably enough really or do I go 1260, obviously S spec to get the skyhook suspension but I do look at it sometimes and thing it has the looks only a mother could love and sometimes it looks quite tasty, appeal is the handling allied to great pillion performance.
I mention pillion several times because I'm trying to get Julie on the back more often so I can get out and do more miles and more trips with her rather than 'desert' her so that I can have fun but I do want to enjoy myself when I get there. The GSXS does the fun bit rather well but the pillion seat is nearly as bad a a normal sports bike..
Comments freely received but as usual you may all be wrong.. or right dependant on my mood
1250 RS will bore the arse off you sooner rather than later.
Ducati is over priced in all guises...new V4s out soon.
KTM Superduke is still agricultural on low speed work...two up will be a pain.
The Kawasaki SX 1000 is the best looking of the bunch...and knowing you as I do I think would suit you best...it's not slow...roomy for two...luggage availability is good...and you will not tire of it...and the best value for money.
Value for money is a definite appeal and I know how brilliant the engine is on the six, the 1250rS with the shiftcam engine is surprising in its urgency and of course is similar power to the six now.. Although with the issues you have had with BMW through the keeper collection and of course Peej I do worry about it as much as I would worry about the KTM..

You're an inline 4 man. SX is the bike of choice.
SX or wait for the V4 Multistrada.
How about and MT10 touring ;) just to mix things up a bit LOL.
But from your 4 the Kawa SX is the one.

Hate the engine on the mt10 and fuel consumption is miserable plus it's looks are best not discussed. Lol

The V4 is going to be a bit above what I want to try to justify spending lol... I am a Kawasaki man so the SX is likely to win the battle but......who knows for sure
SX represents good value for money and I know it's a fantastic all round machine.
I'll likely be lambasted but I'll put the 1050 Tiger Sport out there as an alternative.
SX. And if you aren't bothered about the latest electronics, TFT dash, cruise control etc. get a 2019 model and get a ecu reflash from Ivans performance to give the bike the performance it deserves. 😎
C prefers the seat on the SX over the ZRX.

Jarse I love to 1050 engine and the tiger sport is good to ride but the Julie has sat on it with me and feels to 'slotted in' so I know it'll be a nightmare after 20 minutes..

I'm a gadget fiend lol, actually apart from the tft dash which I really like the appeal of the handling update ticks the box, the seat does seem very different and comfortable for us both but for the right saving I might consider a 2019 with mods..

Haha, it has no appeal to me, I know people do like it but the whole bike just felt wrong
I've looked at loads of You Tube videos on the 2020 SX and I have to say I like what I see...it's a lot of bike for the money...🤔🤔🤔🤔

I've got the comfort seat on mine like the Touring Edition but the pillion pegs are still 'sportsbike level'. I wouldn't want to go far on the back of one!

I know I will love it tbh, loved my old one and the refinements added just make it a very very good prospect that also gets me back on my beloved Kawasaki's LOL..
Like all the colour schemes as I'd love to see the forthcoming blue in the flesh, it is a bike that I could order happily without even riding one.. It is for the competition to impress me enough to look that way and yes VFM plays a part, pcp makes difference monthly smaller than you would think but of course these 'interesting' times are making me cautious or is that my age HAHA

Do it...if 2020 has shown us anything it's live for NOW...👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Due to me not keeping up with what is new in bikes for some considerable time this thread is useless without pics.
PS - Buy the Kwak.
Took the new S1000XR out for a spin today to see if the vibe issues was better, got to say riding position is great, engine is a stonker and vibes are reduced but still enough there to bug me and for Julie she feels it through the grab rails. So Z1000SX is booked for next week..
Amazing getting back on my bike after riding the Xr today, it felt tiny, narrow bars, high pegs and I thought it was comfortable previously lol
Despite all the issues I've had the GS is probably the best all round bike I've ever owned/ridden (for my style of riding). But I do think the Z1000SX will suit you, I nearly tried one myself.

You find vibes in every bike.
I would test ride the GT.
KTM are about to their yearly price slash, so you could pick up a bargain.

The XR has been the worst I've come across, yes the SX had them in one spot, the GSXS has them in a couple places but not to the extent of the XR, it's a shame as it's probably the right bike other than that and part of me thinks if I could find a used one where the owner had damped them out then I'd be a happy bunny lol

I never felt it was an issue on the one I had...😊
PS: I'm toying with the 2021 SX1000...like what I see...would suit for a bit of spirited riding and touring.

I thought you loved the look of the SX. Or are you getting the XR and SX mixed up ? Alzo is toying with the Kawasaki Ninja Z1000SX. The same as what you fancy.

Yeah....for clarity I'm talking about the Kawasaki SX1000...the 2021 colours are the only change...the Black Performance is my choice.
The man who rode a Suzuki GSR 1000 thing isn't taken with the Z1000 Ninja looks 😳😉😂
The Kawasaki is officially known as the Ninja 1000SX. There is the Ninja 1000SX performance and tourer versions, and the performance tourer version too. Just to confuse folk.
If I was a wood butcher , I would have a Ninja 1000SX performance tourer, in black. 😉😎
A wee trundle to KK tomorrow for a butchers.
Poor woodcutter.
Had a good look at Ninja 1000SX...loads to like...I think if my Missus came with me on tours or runs it would be ideal...TFT is clear and full of all the information you could ever need.
I'll not be changing as I realise I am not ready to let go of the BMW S1000R...fits me so well...although the new 2021 S1000R may be enough to lure me.
The only wish for me on the ninja is not having electronic suspension although it does have a remote adjuster for preload, but.... it looks good in white or graphite and It is a box ticker lol
Rode Davy's SX and thought the suspension was plush...ZH2 suspension was sublime too...Kwak seemed to have got that part pretty sorted.

Standard suspension is average at best. Not enough rebound damping in the forks. If I keep my SX I will be giving it the Maxton treatment.
Other than that, the SX is a great all rounder.
2021 SX looks sharp. 😎
Not many bad bikes out there at all these days...the best one is the one that suits "You"

Test ride done today on the Ninja, very impressive, everything that was good about the old one but with some added refinement and better handling, the brakes are very good. The deciding factor may be how Julie feels on pillion but need to organise a ride for that. Yes I could definitely live with one again, BMW on Wednesday and perhaps Multistrada..
BMW R1250RS ridden and have to say what a bike, I really do like it .. a lot but all things being even it is approx £100 per month more expensive on the finance although it is cheaper insurance than the Ninja by about £20 per month ( equivalent) plus with current offer just announced another £15 per month saved, so £65 per month difference gets me better weather protection, higher residual value, more control over the gadgets (dodgy Bluetooth tho lol), keyless operation, electronic suspension...
Alternative is to buy an ex demo or 1 owner BMW with 2 years of warranty, have a realistic difference of £30 per month and I suspect I'd be a very happy bunny....
I know I'm leaning towards the BMW but I know I will love the big Kwak...
Stay tuned as the bank manager has his say......lol
If the BMW ticks the boxes and turns your head then go for a new one and pay the money for the pleasure.
What's the point on settling for your second choice unless your finances are that tight?
Do it.
Don't do it too quickly though. This thread is the only thing keeping the forum alive....

Now put off till new year, an element of frustration kicked in with finance company being dicks.. And yes I know its like the last chapter of the book being ripped out or the last season of GOT

😭😭😭😭😭
I had an RS as a courtesy bike...the engine was nice...just felt the front end a tad heavy and not a lot of feedback...but roomy for 2 up work...it would be a good mile muncher...this was the Keyless option...one I wouldn't tick...pain in the ass.
