Title: 2021 Keeper
Post by: Alzo on October 30, 2020, 03:19:09 PM
The contenders are:
1.Kawasaki ZH2 Supercharger

2. KTM 1290 Superduke R 3.0

3. 2021 BMW S1000R (to be revealed)

Outside runner could be the updated Speed Triple 1200 (to be revealed).

As it stand the draw is strongest towards the KTM at the moment.

Feel free to offer the usual measured balanced opinions.
Thank you in advance.

BMW S1000RR has reliability some horror stories flying around it so I'm not sure I'd be keen on a new model based on it.
Kawasaki's are shit these days so that leaves KTM or Triumph.
I'd probably lean towards the Triumph unless they screw it right up!

No brainer, KTM

couldn't possibly recommend triumph after the shit i have had with mine
although you never know they may product a bike without any issues next year...

how about the ducati streetfighter v4.
i still keep thinking that i should have got one
and shouldn't have let silly things like not having enough money get in my way

Yeah feel I've did enough of BMW...current bike shuts down when I fuel up...to get a Software update...new fuel pump and pipes.

ZH2 was impressive...but...🤔

I'm awaiting a call for a test ride on the KTM...every review is hugely positive.

Look forward to the Speed release...the Trident released today looks great...only 80bhp...so no use to a God like me...😊😉...but a quality looking bike

KTM is doing it for me.

Get the ZH2 or the KTM.
Kawasaki build quality is fine.
KTM looks a whole lot of fun, but not keen on the headlight and plasticky bits.
ZH2 you've ridden and liked. Not a looker but tail tidy, different can and get rid of the mirrors and you will have 1 serious weapon.
BMW will be a serious piece of kit too, but you will be back at the dealers regularly.
Triumph build quality is questionable too.

I haven't ruled the ZH2 out at all...but I watched Dave Moss tuning on You Tube...and his comment was he reckoned the standard rear shock on the ZH2 would be useless after 2000 miles...🤷‍♂️...he seems well respected in the Suspension world...so to hear him say that was off putting...I know it can be upgraded...but at just shy of £16k I really hadn't planned to do that for a new bike.

Manufacturers are fitting some fucking cheap and nasty suspension on bikes these days. I got told by someone in the industry that the manufacturers purchase budget for a sportsbike shock was about £50!

I can't believe a new shock would be toast after 2000 miles. And if it was it would surely be covered by warranty. That Dave Moss may know his stuff but he never, couldn't, set the rear sag on the ZH2.  🙄

Joking aside. I really don't think you'll like the KTM. You were quite vocal about not liking V Twins. The Gen 3 Superduke might be slightly lighter and have much better handling but I don't think there's that much change to the motor.

Reliability aside I'd be adding the Tuono to that list - you'd then get a Superbike motor and handling in a more upright package.

I do agree...I have reservations about the V Twin...so the Test Ride could just seal its fate.
I went along and had a look at the Tuono too...and to be honest the opening figures discussed were healthy...but I couldn't get excited...I appreciate the V4 engine would be a great motor...but stood at the dealers looking at their Demo it just looked so dated.🤷‍♂️

The problem is also the fact most Aprilia dealers are miles from prospective owners and some of them don't have the best reputations. I still love them.

Dealer I bought my MT from has expanded and is Suzuki, Aprilia, Yamaha, Moto Guzzi and Indian now. Quite fancy an Indian Bobber or FTR now!

You have a preference for il4 so I reckon you'll rule out the KTM pretty quickly which might be a shame, engine is really rather good and if you only have it a year then it would have lasted longer than some keepers ;-)

The ones I've looked at (briefly) seem better built than most bikes these days. The Victory bikes that preceded them were really nicely made.

Having had a good look at potential 2021 Keepers I have came to the decision to remain with my S1000R for 2021...I still enjoy it very much...and the other thing is the uncertainty of next year due the Pandemic...not sure what use we will get on the bikes...I fear my Euro adventures will be on hold again.
I have directed the funds elsewhere...so here's to 2021 on the magnificent BMW S1000R. 😊😊😊😊

Took you a few years to realise it's one of the finest bikes on the road then!

I'm jealous - really couldn't justify buying a 2020 model. It's vastly superior to the previous versions.
