Title: B1 value advice please
Post by: Kath600 on August 20, 2013, 04:15:31 PM
Hola

James' step brother is going to look at one near us this evening. It's parked outside the house near us. I've just gone to look at it and the guy came home.

It's a green one, 24k on the clock, two fobs, two keys, some service history, carbon can

£2595.

These are my observations  ;) I've learnt a bit from you guys and gals it seems

Small scrapes on the engine casing and fairing.
Mirrors don't match at all
One bar end scraped
One rear set bracket different
Oil tank bit has a chunk of paint missing
Chain and sprockets filthy, may need replacing
Tyres show it's been on track or ridden in a spirited fashion  ;)

Chap came home just as I was logging all this in my phone. Seemed nice enough, has only had it a few weeks but needs to sell to buy a new work van or something like that.

He bought it from another islander but doesn't know if it had its big service or not.
He hadn't noticed some of the things I pointed out lol.

It started ok and sounded healthy enough ticking over nicely. He was happy enough for me to take it out if I wanted to.

Personally I think it's too much bike for the young man interested in it.

However if his heart is set and he wants it, what do you guys think its worth?

I've looked about and just seen one with low mileage on bike trader for 2.5k

Cheers folks

Oh and I asked about the tyres, previous owner tracked it but he didn't know about the scrapes.

I said the mis matched mirrors and scrapes suggest its been on the floor at low speed or dropped doing something stupid at a stand still.

is that the green one at the side of the road going into ryde just past the roundabout to your old place kath? I stopped to have a look at that one the other day if it is! I thought it was a bit overpriced myself..... I dont know what B1's specifically go for, but to me it looked a little tatty for 2.5k.

Sounds like it has been over at some point and put back together cheaply.

Big services every 8k miles on the B1 I think.

Some service history counts for nothing if it is not up to date.

Dirty chain doesn't necessarily mean knackered but does point to a lack of maintenance.

Overall I would say there are better ones out there for that price.

PS - You are supposed to ride them in a spirited fashion.

He he you know what I mean. It's not been ridden by a nervous novice that's for sure.

Yep, that's the one bullet.  think the guy was a touch taken a back by what I said and got a bit defensive.

Teeth on the sprocket looked a little rounded but so filthy I didn't investigate further.

If it were me I'd want proof of big services and if not maybe just under 2k cash offer lol as we know these big services are not cheap!

There is a cbr600f on wightbay for 2495 I've suggested taking a look at.

Oh and whatever he gets he's going from an r125 and would have to be restricted

tatty ones less than 2k minters still struggle to get 2.5

but there's very few minters around now.

if it's going to be restricted i'd question if its worth it over getting somethign that's already done or in the sub33bhp category already....

My B1 was in fantastic condition before I got knocked off and the insurance value mine at £2700 but she was clean as a whistle (not trying to blow my own whistle there but she was very clean and I have never tracked mine). If its got scrapes and the bar ends are scraped its been down, no excuses about scratching on the garage wall etc. £1800-£1900 will probably do it justice taking into account I know how much parts can be for this bike given the last few weeks of trying to source them myself.

Thank you. Personally. I'd like to see him take baby steps and get a ninja 250 next but what do I know lol

Its sounds like a shed personally.

Due to the fact it obviously been dropped I'd pay no more than £1500 for it.

He may well not take that but I'd be prepared to bet there's more, much better condition B1's out there for sale.....

Seen a couple of nice looking ones on evil bay recently. One that had been loved was on for £2600 so this one is way overpriced. Service wise the shims need to be done at a max of 16k and much much earlier if its been tracked. I'm willing to bet this hasn't been done in a while! I think it's way overpriced.

I wouldn't like to think what the bike would be like restricted!

In all honesty I had a couple of years on a Peugeot speedfight 100 then got rid and five years later after having ridden nothing at all I went straight in and bought my B1 so I can't comment on that but in regards o the above bike I would like everyone says find a better condition one for a lot less money, the last thing you want is a money pit of a first big bike which needs to be kept in tip top condition to get the best out of it.

Hey kath, has he seen this one?  similar to your first big bike, but its the later fuel injected version ;)

http://www.wightbay.com/motorbikes-scooters-for-sale/honda-cbr-600f-sport-/4824722

low milage, nearly a grand cheaper than that b1, and already restricted..... looks alright to me!

plus its the slightly flashier sport version

Well, we went, we saw, deposit paid  :afro:

Very fairly priced bike IMO. Going to be MOT'd and serviced before the balance is paid.

Few scuffs, lady did exactly what I did as a newbie, turned too tight at walking speed and dropped it

Nice one   looked like a fairly priced decent first bike from the ad, lucky it had the crash bungs if she dropped it! Personally i think thats a much better choice for a first big bike than a b1 hope he enjoys it :)
