bolt ons seem pretty cheap, I'm thinking forks rebuilt and a cheap aftermarket shock (say £500 Nitro or something), decent rubber and an engine service....... oh and a new screen because that one makes me fucking angry, Chain and sprockets and it'll haul around a track at a decent fast group pace.
Then I'm thinking rearsets and a 'zorst, oh and a quickshifter if you can get them for carb'd bikes?
Nothing too radical as I don't want it to become another fucking Wanny Daugh special, more bolt on goodies.
What say you fothermuckers??
Brakes and suspension and decent tyres are the place where it's necessary...assuming you have carried out a full condition check

Road bike track day on the 17th August, so I'll give it a run out then. I'm away until the 15th anyway.
So, shopping list so far:
Maxton Shock £450 (Sunni and SW doing me a decent deal)
Rearsets £200
Fork rebuild £150
Quickshifter £250
Tyres (Racetech TD) £280
Chain and sprockets £120
Screen £60
Service bits and bobs £100
Cosmetics/powdercoating £100
I reckon all that will see it running a decent pace in the fast group at any track and should do me proud at Cartagena in October.

I'm really pleased with it. Exhaust and headers are in decent order, forks have been rebuilt and so have the callipers and I've no reason not to believe him.
Few new fixings and a bit of a tart up and it'll look the part.
I'm resisting doing the usual, tear it down and wait for the parts as money always gets spent elsewhere and I end up with a bike in bits.
it runs fine, it may handle like shit, but I'll find that out in due course.
It will be more satisfying riding that well than a more modern bit of kit.
Look forward to the reports on the first track time.

Everything looks in reasonable order. Managed to set rider sag but judging by the speed of the rebound, I think the shock has seen better days.
For those of you fortunate enough to not be burdened with my incessant Facebook ramblings, my RC8 fell off its stand and landed on my Katana........ what do you think are the chances of there being absolutely not a single mark on either bike?

190/55 back tyre and 10mm of washers under the shock mount improves the steering no end.
Front forks are weird too. The preload adjuster adjusts ride height rather than preload. Forks on mine were pretty good with the right rate Ohlins springs and new oil.
Little update, I was trying to get out today at 3 Sisters but a couple of parts have failed to arrive. My own fault for ordering them late.

Managed to get out for 3 sessions at Oulton last week as a shakedown before sending the bike off to Spain this weekend.
Bike ran terribly; starts and revs out fine under no load but bogs down when throttle applied out on track.

118 bhp at the wheel first run. Slight carb leak needs sorting before it's fine tuned further, so we're hoping for a few more once set up.
Happy with that, I reckon a few scalps will be had on track

I've made some tweaks over winter, so it's a shakedown at Mallory on Sunday, then Donny in a couple of weeks then Cartagena again in April. I can't wait.

Well. After my off at Mallory I got some new bodywork and gave it the graphics treatment before an outing at Donington.
Donington was fun but I had terrible aggressive rebound issues with the front, so I took the forks to Sunni at SW Suspension who confirmed that I had pretty much no damping force.
I'm going with a maxton cartridge set, but in the meantime he's rebuilt them for Cartagena this weekend.

My experiment that I could be just as fast on this as I was on my KTM has failed pretty badly, but I love the bike so much and I'm having an absolute hoot on it, so I've decided to keep it and spend some money on the suspension and possibly brakes.
