So.....
Think next year may include a few more trackdays after I finally popped my trackday cherry at Snetterton. :moto:
I had a great day but didnt push very hard as I was to worried about crashing the bike. Having a situation where that is less of a concern would certainly help matters.
Cant decide whether to buy a designated trackbike or get some track plastics for the next roadbike and buy a roadbike which isnt to bad to change over and back.
Decisions Decisions....wont be for a few months yet but all inputs welcome :-)
Depends if you want a road bike with cheap plastics on it or something set up for the job which will cost more.
Personally I bought a track bike that had enhanced suspension, brakes and power with wets on wheels.
Provided I don't somersualt it through a gravel trap I should get most of my money back when I sell it.
Track bike.
But beware therein lies a dangerous (read costly) path....
not sure that not caring about crashing would help matters
i have found being totally paranoid about crashing my only form of transport a good thing
and probably why i have never crashed at a track day
and i still have good fun :moto:
that said i also do on average 1 track day a year
:blank:
Been using my road bike for 2 years on track but going to get a track bike either next season or season after. Was run off my line this year buy another rider and went in to the kitty litter. Thankfully didn't come off but made me think.
Starting to press on now and don't want the fear of binning my road bike in the back of my mind.
Depends how much you need your bike for commuting.
I did the road bike swapping into plastics for a couple of years, was fine, but a ballache when i was commuting on it daily. Track bike is much easier and it doesn't matter if you crash it as it isn't your transport into work.
If i wasn't commuting on the bike i'd happily use it as both and swap as needed.
I do use my bike for commuting but these days work from home most of the time.
Its a difficult one...hmmmm
I used my old GSXR for both, could swap it from road to track in a little over an hour even with my lack of mechanical prowess.
All depends how gutted you'd be and how much inconvenience there would be if you binned it and it took 3 months to fix.
I don't think that theres a hard and fast rule, I spose it all depends on whether you want to risk binning your only bike and then having to get it fixed just to use it for commute etc, or whether your comfortable with have a 'disposable' bike should the very worst happen (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/WizzBang00/Smileys/icon_eek_zpsc6a16d7f.gif)
you could convert current bike to a track toy and buy yourself a brand new shiny bike for the road
win win!! :afro:
Im looking to buy a GP45 spec bike for track use after I get married in 2015, as I doubt we would be able to afford me getting a car and insurance, let alone a licence for it. im going to look at buying the parts over a period of time that way vi can keep costs down and have fun slowly building it all up.
That said of I could afford to just buy one outright I'd do that tomorrow.
Komp, I would do that but the kawa is annoying enough just to take the fairing off, would look for a bike thats easier to change things over on....
PJ Gixxer would make a good track bike hmmm
the reason I am less keen to just have track bike even though that is the ideal is I am unsure exactly how many days I would manage next year. If I managed 4 or more then it would be worth getting a dedicated track bike if its just 2 or 3 its a very expensive toy :-)

I sold mine to Foo for less than a grand and it still had plenty of life in it, you could get a trackbike for a very reasonable sum.
You could turn your current bike into a dedicated trackbike but they are getting a little bit long in the tooth now (nothing wrong with them though) but I reckon you could get something already in track trim, and newer for less money/aggro than converting yours.
you think the kwak hard to get the fairing off! you ought to own a blade
i had a J1, that was childs play compared to the current bike
I had a k5 gixxer 600 and the fairing was not that easy to change over, b1 is easier i would say.
The k4/5 600 isn't a great track bike in my opinion, I had to get the forks worked on as the stock ones bottomed out on the brakes, for me it needed a powercommander as the initial throttle response was not very smooth, the steering damper was way to restrictive and not really needed and the front discs would warp themselves with not much stick. That's only me though, maybe I'm just too shit to ride with a few niggles :moto:
Matt currently I am riding a ZX6R with slightly warped discs, sports touring tyres and the sloppiest throttle in the world, the gixxer sounds great to me ;)
