Title: 2007 Tuono R....
Post by: Farmer Giles on October 28, 2013, 06:34:58 PM
Looking at a 2007 Tuono R tomorrow..

anything I need to know ?

I had a 2000 Mille R a few years ago and just wondered if the common issues on the original bikes had been fixed on the later versions..

poor electrics
small batteries that have to be kept on an optimate
Sprag clutch on the starter
Rear brake master cylinder being cooked by the exhaust
Too high gearing so too much clutch slipping needed in town

I presume not much has changed on the engines, still dry sump'd, 60deg V twin..  twin sparks in each cylinder..

Anyone owned one, what are they like to live with ?  Will be a weekend toy rather than a daily commuter..

thanks
Martyn

The two guys that used to be on here...Tucker and Gunny both loved most aspects barring reliability...it takes away from all the good...I know both guys well and they are glad to see the back of them...that quite honestly would be enough for me...rectifier/regulator I believe is the big costly issue.

(*Edited, just seen you have bought a fz8!*)

I had a 2008 RSV1000R ( basically the same mechanically) a few years back that i bought for a Euro bike trip.. I covered 2800 miles in 10 days on it

Basically, yes the rear brake still cooks itself! and the gearing is still high.. but changing the sprockets, loading Map 2 and aftermarket cans really help them

Id also comment on when you brim the fuel tank petrol pours out of the overflow pipe onto the floor and sometimes over the hot exhaust system!!.  In heavy traffic and heat the clutch lever goes spongey and quite often needs to be bled ( simple task but annoying whilst away on it).. you can buy a mod to fix this

The later bikes had many electric niggles sorted, but some still had issues with the regualtor/rectifier conection plug melting together.  I hard wired these together to be safe.

Overall i loved it and they are great value.  I only lost £150 on mine and covered 6000 miles in the process
