Title: New bike day
Post by: MOzZereLLa on November 30, 2013, 05:05:08 PM
Had to be done.  After an epic test ride I just didn't want to give the keys back.

Smooth as hell (for a big twin), superb brakes, fast as fuck, lifts the front off the throttle in 4th, lifts off crests in 5th, handles superbly, feels pretty light and best of all, doesn't hurt.  All in all, sports bikes can get to fuck - this is the new daddy - bar none (until I get my 1290 Superduke R).

KTM rapidly becoming my favourite manufacturer.  Everything they build is just excellent.

funnily enough just been reading about the premature engine wear due to the poor design of the air filter housing over on the ABR forum (Adventure Bike Riders) where lads who do serious miles on these types of bike hang out when they're not going round the world

No concerns for me then. Spring to Autumn commuting will be 90 miles a day.

I'd be keen for any links to the "problems" though please Stuno

Why does everyone have horror stories about bikes they don't own?

Had a look at the ABR Forum and the issue rises when doing hundreds of miles off road in heavy dust. Mine ain't going to do that but it would appear KTM have acknowledged the problem and agreed to replace some engines and fitted the 2014 airbox.

Long gone mate. Traded it for the 990 Adventure I've been using for the last couple of months.

If you want horror stories about bikes. Try the Aprilia 550 sxv, I had one for 2 years. Never owned a bike that cost so much money just to stop it breaking down.  :((http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a230/icescape/terrys/n8178.jpg)[/URL]

Moz, what exhaust did you get for this in the end, and how are you getting on overall with the bike?

I am picking up the standard 1190 Adventure next week and need to order an exhaust (silencer), so far the following seem reasonably good value when compared to the Akro prices so would be interested to have your views.

Wings Short:   620 Euro's  (http://www.wings.si/ (http://www.wings.si/))
Barrett:           $540 Australian (http://www.barrettexhausts.com.au/ktm-gallery.html (http://www.barrettexhausts.com.au/ktm-gallery.html))
Arrow:            £437 (From http://www.genialmotor.it/catalog/KTM-1190-ADVENTURE-R-2013-ARROW-EXHAUST-TITANIUM-MAXI-RACETECH (http://www.genialmotor.it/catalog/KTM-1190-ADVENTURE-R-2013-ARROW-EXHAUST-TITANIUM-MAXI-RACETECH) but not sure about ordering from these guys to be honest.)

Cheers

Love it. 700 miles done. Fitted the Arrow in the end. Got it from Italy off eBay for £300 delivered new from Genial. No issues. Took two weeks to arrive.

Sounds mental, especially on the overrun!!

looks good, is that a picture of your bike, I thought you were getting the R version?

Have found a couple on e-bay, this one seems good value http://r.ebay.com/GZkCnG  (http://r.ebay.com/GZkCnG)

Yep. That's this month's keeper

Didn't bother with the R version in the end. The standard bike is just as good and as it will spend 99.9% of its time on Tarmac, it's all I need.
