I bought Anna a cheap second hand 125 Keeway (?) scooter from the auctions.

Seems to run OK but hits 35mph and doesn't rev any higher...... are they restricted?

We always hire scooters abroad and they all seem to zip along at a decent lick.

Bike Talk / New Z900

I'd like radial brakes though for that proper retro-with-tech look.

Shame it won't be out any time soon though...... I've not seen anything which flicks my switch so much in a while.

Bike Talk / Your B1
February 19, 2016, 12:49:06 PM
Just reading that Carbon has a B1 he's 'spent a fortune' which I'd love to see, and I know it was a popular bike among us Ninjas back in the day, so I'd love to see other people's B1's and find out what you did to them (if anything).

So, I'll start off with mine, which Dicko and I shared as a track bike and Dicko built from brand spanking.

From what I can remember, we had a full acky race system, Ohlins rear shock, K Tech forks, Ohlins damper, race harness, HD engine covers and a few other bits and pieces like rear sets and levers etc. The engine was stock though but it handled beautifully.

Eventually sold to Emma (NG) for a song.

So...... let's see yours.

Suspension / Nitron Shocks

What's the good word people?

I can get a brand spanking bad boy for my MV with a remote hydraulic preload adjuster for £600 as opposed to over double that for an Ohlins.

Other recommendations welcomed of course.

I've delved in to this before with little success, so rather than do my usual and spend hundreds on a bike I'll never use, I thought I'd dip my toe with something a little less expensive.

Here are a couple of bikes on e-bay I'm watching.

The Orange is a few minutes away so I can collect, the Kona will require couriering, so they're both sub £150.

Thoughts and advice welcomed as always.

Bike Talk / Well I didn't think it was worth that!!
August 17, 2015, 09:35:22 AM
Need to create a bit more space in the garage for the arrival of a new car, so decided that the ZX7R had to go.

No idea what it was worth so stuck it on with a £400 reserve, and to my complete amazement:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ZX7R-/271952717757

Even had some chap have a bit of a moan because I couldn't be arsed to dig out the fairings and he apparently was willing to go up to £1,250!!!...... I think he's talking bollocks, you can get a running one for that.

Shame it has to go, but there's enough in my garage now to keep me occupied.

Projects / Yard build box
July 06, 2015, 11:28:59 AM
Following my visit to Numbnuts in Amsterdam with Gavoir, I decided to build a couple of these for my bikes:

Put mine on locking casters so that I can move them around the garage and set them slightly lower so that I can work low down from a stool..... also left them open for a space to put parts and tools.

Really useful, not only do they make the bikes easier to work on for a fat old c*nt like me, with dicky knees.... but they butt together and actually save space.

Single sheet of OSB, 7No 2.4m lengths of 3x2 and some casters... about £80 in materials. Wheels were quite expensive as I went for good quality.

Anna is having her company make some folded over sheet stainless steel sheet to fit to the tops.

Plastered on Facebook, so again, forgive the indulgence, but a cheeky last minute bid snagged me this bad boy..... always wanted one:

Seems tidy enough.

Bike Talk / Interesting little Foggy related tale.
December 18, 2014, 03:44:10 PM
Met a client yesterday, turns out he's mates with Foggy and the pair of them have done enduro racing since they were both knee high to a grasshopper.

The bit I found amusing was that my client claims that Foggy is a bit shit at the old off road...... in his words "he's shit, but mental".

Bike Talk / Filtering etiquette
September 16, 2014, 04:35:06 PM
Had a little run in with a chap driving a van today which got me thinking.

At traffic lights, if there's room I slowly filter my way to the front.... occasionally if the lights change before I get there, rather than carrying on to filter, I drop in behind the car or van in front.

Today I had a van driver take umbrage with me for doing exactly that, I pulled in behind the car in front of him and thus, in his opinion forced myself in.

So we had a little chat where he explained that he's busy and needs to be somewhere and I jump the queue and hold him up....... I retorted by acknowledging his point but thought he was being petty as we're talking micro seconds..... not the sort of time which is going to get the lad fired..... right.

I suppose what I've done could be interpreted as rude?

I'm not sure what the options are.... take my place at the back of the queue or continue to filter in the moving traffic and get to the front ASAP (not always possible as traffic tends to close up when moving).

Advice, as always, welcomed.

Wouldn't normally recommend buying or selling second hand lids, but having tried this on, Anna never bothered with it again so in that regard it's like new but for the odd mark.

SHOEI XR-900 Dragon

Anyway. £150+P&P to fellow Ninja's

Non-Bike help questions / Car audio guru's
August 01, 2014, 12:33:56 PM
So my Lotus has the original head unit and speakers but sounds terrible, which is probably old knackered speakers/wires or the in built amp is shot.

The speakers are concealed behind the door cards are pretty standard 6 x 4 speakers which I'll replace like for like.

I want to keep the head unit in place for originality and bypass it so that I can have a discreet lead to connect my iphone to and play music through that.

I'm assuming some kind of small amp? Or is there a better way?

To be clear, I'm not looking for top spec ICE and I have no intention of modifying anything as the car is totally original inside.......

Bike Talk / oh joy... a 'what bike' thread....
July 30, 2014, 05:15:04 PM
So, after the awesomeness of yesterday's track day, I'd now like to add a sports bike to the garage here at Danoir Towers..... the criteria:

- Under £7K
- Exotic
- Won't hemorrhage money
- Future classic
- Looks the bollocks

So far, my list contains:
Ducati 999
Ducati 848
Ducati 1098
KTM RC8
Honda SP1/2
MV F4

Thoughts?

Non-Bike help questions / Adding music to MP4
July 02, 2014, 08:51:48 AM
I've got an MP4 file that I'd like a specific song adding to.

Anyone here help?

OK, so I've been a bit silly. I got a parking fine from a local authority parking attendant which I ignored.

The fine went up to £75 - ignored.

Couple of weeks ago I get a notice of enforcement asking for £187...... didn't ignore - forgot.

Today I get home and apparently a chap has attended my house (I'm assuming he's a bailiff) and is now demanding £422.

I've contacted them and asked to pay the £187 but they're insistent that I pay the full amount before it goes up to £632.

I didn't know people could legally do this?..... or is this someone trying it on?

Bike Talk / Road Racing - do we agree?
May 21, 2014, 08:45:48 AM
I'm sure we've all see this floating around the 'tinterweb and I know many of my dear FB friends from here have supported the contents, but I'm not so sure I do.

http://dazooracing.wordpress.com/2014/05/20/road-racing-is-dangerous/

For clarity, I support road racing as a spectacle and have enormous admiration for those who compete, and I doubt anyone would disagree with me when I say that improvements in rider safety are largely good, so I'm not calling for these kinds of races to be banned.

I just find it a little unsavory when people suggest that 'so-and-so' died doing what he/she loved doing, they knew the risks etc.

It's worth asking the question: if you told a road racer that he would eventually be killed participating in the sport he loves, would he continue?

In other words, do some people need protecting from themselves?

I can only make my judgement based on very limited (and rather pathetic) personal experience, but when I was racing, accidents happened to other people, even when they happened to me, there was always some freak occurrence to suggest it wouldn't happen again..... regrettably, my natural lack of talent controlling a motorcycle at warp speeds ensured that it did.... frequently.

Point being, if I could go back, knowing what I know now, I'd never throw a leg over a motorcycle in the first place, and my injuries were never life threatening.

I'm not proposing a solution, merely the suggestion that it's not all 'black and white' and to justify a rider's death with a series of blanket clichés is a bit head in the ground.

Non-Bike help questions / Cable TV
May 07, 2014, 09:28:30 AM
I'm currently with Virgin Media on a full broadband, phone and TV package but I hardly watch 'live' TV so would like to cancel this package.

Apparently I've got to send my equipment back, which amounts to 3 boxes (living room, bedroom and office).

Is there anything I can put back using the cables already there which will give me access to freeview TV channels?

Can is use 18mm OSB on a membrane over my concrete floor in my kitchen and then tile over that?

I'd normally use ply but I've got some OSB left over in the garage.

Non-Bike help questions / Insurance on a lease car
January 17, 2014, 10:11:33 AM
Long story short, a tree fell on Bruce's car during the recent high winds.

Car subsequently written off.

Insurance co' send someone out and value the car at 10K

Lease company write to us/insurance co with a settlement figure of 8K

I'm now told that the lease has now been cancelled and we'll have to start again with a new car and pay a deposit all over again..... so basically that leaves me £1,500 out of pocket even though there's a +£2000 difference in the valuation and settlement.

I'd have thought the insurance co would pay that, but apparently not.

Pissed off that through a totally blameless accident, I'm now forking out £1,500 to buy the ginger c*nt a new car!!!!!

Questions:
1 - does that seem right to you?
2 - is there any recourse?
3 - what's the best way to dispose of a body?
4 - would anyone miss a ginger anyway?
