Non-Bike help questions / Advice on business debtor
December 16, 2013, 07:46:45 AM
So.... this time last year I had a little fall out with a client.... he kept changing his mind last minute costing me money, so eventually I had to tell him he was getting charged.... so he decides he doesn't need the services of an architect.

A few months later, I get a call..... he's landed himself in it and needs help (planning enforcements, builder costs spiralling etc) but as usual he doesn't want to pay.....he's a bit of a charmer and I'm a sucker for a sob story so when it comes to divying up, my fee is around £12K...... so I agree to do it at cost, less a few bits, so the fee agreed is £5K.

My invoice states £12 less client discount blah blah blah........ takes ages to get anything out of him, but eventually he stumps up £4K...... so owes £1K plus the VAT, so £2K in total.

The usual letters have gone out; which he's not responded to, so this Wednesday I'm pursuing him through small claims..... it's a small amount and I've never done small claims before, so fancy a crack.

My question is this...... can I pursue the full invoice of £12K as I made it perfectly clear it was a special client discount?..... I suspect not, or I should at least have threatened him with it...... the thought just came to me whilst having my morning brew.

Non-Bike help questions / Wall mounting leathers
November 26, 2013, 09:26:26 AM
I'd like to wall mount a few sets of my leathers in my office, but I don't want to just hang them on hangers.

Can anyone suggest a way?

I'm thinking maybe glue something to the back of each shoulder section which can then mount on something fixed to the wall?

Ideas home slices....... that's what I pay you for!!!...... sorry, slipped in to work mode

PJ's old one. Structurally not in bad order and not much rust to report, it's just a little cosmetically rough.

One of the wheel bearings was on its way out, and I imagine having stood in my garden for a few months, it's unlikely to have healed, so may be better to collect in a van.

If you want a trailer, if no one else can help and if you can get to Burnley...... maybe you can have...........PJ's old trailer!!!!

Bike Talk / Little debate between me and Gavin-san
October 16, 2013, 09:55:53 AM
I was explaining my view that I feel Rossi is the GOAT not just because of the number of titles he's won and what he's brought to the sport in terms of popularity etc, but I consider him to have transcended the greatest progression in motorcycle technology ever.

Le Gavoir is of the opinion that the current bikes are harder than anything that has come before to ride.

Now, he's spent years in the GP paddock, so knows a thing or two, so I'm not going to dismiss his claim. And whilst I've raced 250's and small and high capacity 4 strokes, my qualifications are more GCSE level than masters degree, considering I've never even ridden a bike with TC, let alone raced one........ but I can't see how or why a bike with amazing power which is controlled by supercomputers can be harder to ride than a bike with 3/4 the power, lighter, with no electronic aids and a hair trigger?????

Discuss.....

answers with more content than "he's/you're talking shit" welcomed...... cos I'm afraid that's all I managed with Gav...... not my most robust argument, I'll admit.

old ZX7 I got fleeced for and subsequently gave away?

well..... I'm getting it back.

Not sure why, not sure what I'll do with it, or when I'll do it.

Least I own a Kawasaki though.

As you were..... fuckers

Bike Talk / How much would you bid for this?
August 21, 2013, 01:21:11 PM
Something to have sat in the garage, tinker with, and occasionally show these young-uns how it's done old skool.

What would your top whack bid be?

Non-Bike help questions / Meeting in London
August 05, 2013, 10:45:44 AM
I've got a meeting in Fulham next Monday at 10:00am.

I'm considering driving down the evening before and staying in a cheap travel lodge, then using the tube to get to Fulham.

Can anyone recommend somewhere out of north London close to a tube station with a cheap travel lodge type thing?

Projects / The Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag'

You may remember the Jag I inherited from a client; who's become a dear friend of mine.

He bought this new, his wife chose the colour and when he lost her to cancer, he put the car in storage, not being able to bare to sell it.

Well, I made a start, then put it on ice due to the house renovation, but I've recently found out that the old boy is suffering from cancer himself, so I've decided to have a crack at getting it back roadworthy ASAP so that he can see it.

Anyway, it's booked in for new arches next week, I'll then assess the bodywork and get it up to MOT standard.

A reminder of what it looked like when I collected it and slung some water over it:

And shortly after I'd had my grubby little mitts on it:

Hopefully there will be an update soon.
