I was always under the impression that with ride other bikes you could ride someone else's bike as long as its insured by them , on closer inspection there seems to be different covers some people say as long as its insured by the owner and some don't mention that just checked my policy and there is no mention of it being insured by the owner is this a typo or would I be perfectly legal as my policy would cover it?

I wouldn't do it with a bike anyway, as the cover is generally TPO

not in general its just so I can insure it in my own name when I get home as opposed to at the side of the road

ah right.

Well, my understanding is that as long as there's a valid policy already on the bike, you're legally entitled to ride it as you're covered by your insurance to do so...... as you won't be a named driver on the specific policy.

that was my understanding that the bike would have to have its own policy but theres no mention in my policy of that and there was years ago people have said there's more than one type of "ride other bikes" entitlement" im trying to find out if that's true or if people are just poorly informed

Phone up your insurance company and check.  If they say you're not covered then while you're on you can transfer your policy.

You don't really want to be uninsured, just in case the worst happens.  One phone call will put your mind at rest.

If you've bought the bike then you need to be insured on it weather there's existing cover or not. An existing policy under someone else's name won't wash in the event of an accident.

This was all covered before, I think by TC, on the old forum
Life is a contact sport,  you'll be needing rule #5
