Misfiring at high revs - does this sound like fuel pump?

Afternoon all,

My well used (19k miles, including going on for 100 track days) wheelbarrow '06 10R is having some high rev issues. At around 1,500rpm before the red line on full throttle, it really struggles - misfires/stutters and stops accellerating. Changing up to the next gear fixes it until I approach the redline again.

The engine/fuelling is completely standard. Been fine until recently. The bike is very frequently serviced, and all the valve clearances were shimmed to spec only 200 miles ago.

The misfire is much worse with half a tank of fuel or less. With a full tank, it is still there but it almost invisible.

I am thinking fuel pump and/or blocked fuel filter. I plan to test the fuel flow somehow to see if this is the case. Any other ideas or suggestions? It is not road legal, so I won't know if it is fixed until I am on track next.

I think there is a fuel filter actually in the fuel pump, seem to remember someone having a similar issue at a trackday. Once that filter was cleaned it was fine. Definately sounds like fuel starvation.

I'm sure a lad on the zx10r forum had exactly this problem and it was cured with a secondhand pump.

Thanks both. Time to have the pump out of the tank and investigate.

Almost certainly the teabag filter in the bottom of the fuel pump -- they are renowned for it (as are all the 10R's inc the recent ones).  They are a ball ache to do and reassembly of the fuel pump is very tricky but be patient and it'll be fine :-)

Service items for sure - let me know what you've got. Already have a PC3 though thanks. Removed it as it just triggered FI warnings when the O2 elimenators got wet, and let's face it, a ZX10R really does not miss a handful of extra perfectly fuelled horsepower.
