I've got a load of old sockets that I never use, will dig them out and see how much they weigh. Most aren't particular big though.

in that case do you want to get them to me and we can send em together (Ninjaforce or whatever) as it's probably easier?

Sounds like a plan Iain!

 as someone with an old imperial lathe of 1947 vintage and shaper from 1964 the thought of all those lovely imperial sockets becoming a bloody coffee table makes me weep !

I'm struggling to get mine home ATM....hopefully will get it back by the end of the week

I was outbid on a nearly full bottle of CO2 this morning in Weston-super-mare this morning...it went for £19

The problem is I'd have to factor for getting it back from there which would add on another £25-£30 in fuel and I can get them refilled for about £15 up my way

The value is in the deposit on these bottles. they have you by the short and curlies and it becomes dead money...hobby gas bottles are £60 deposit, and are £25 to exchange for a full bottle from my local welding supplier.

RE the CO2 bottles.........im sure a mate popped to his local boozer and spoke to the landlord about paying for CO2 refills using one of the CO2 bottles the pub uses....might be a cheaper option?

Or find  local hospital and slip the porter a drink for a disused bottle....but dont just take a bottle that are often left outside around the back....ohhh no no no  :police:

Brian

There's a place in Twickenham that will sell you a bottle of Argon/CO2 for about £140, and will do a refill/swap for about £40. Best deal I've found round here.
If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning.

You can also get CO2 refills from fire extinguisher servicing companies for sensible money (I was quoted £15 for a refill)

Maddog , I have been looking, but the deposit on a bottle is a bit prohibitive for them to kiss goodbye to so unless you have a very good relationship with the landlord, it could be a difficult thing to wangle :(

Can the mig be gasless? I know the welds look better with gas, but is it not an option to try without just to get you going?
