A friend is buying a bike, privately, at a distance, including getting it delivered and thought I read somewhere there was some way to mortgage the risk with a middle man interceding?

Any help or advice appreciated.

Find a local bike shop and ask if they will provide an inspection report for it. I've seen companies who do this as well as organise the transport in the past.

DaveH

Cool, so RAC/AA do then for bikes, also what world be the safest way to hand the money over, given no face to face contact?

ash

Bank transfer - you do internet banking ?

You need to satisfy yourelf that the bike meets your expectations though.

DaveH

So on the courier turning up, transfer the money then? Just trying to think how not to hand money over and no bike is forth coming

Andy M

safest way to do it yourself
can he not agree with the seller that if its not as described they will reimburse his transport costs?

Christ...... it's scary how my mind works..... I read the thread title and assumed that there must have been a dog in the garden or something.

Lot of trust involved in the person doing the buying. Thought I had heard/read of some way of mitigating (not mortgage) the risk, seems not. :/

Always fraught...so either the bike is cheap or the bike is rare...if neither then I would either travel the distance and satisfy myself (Mmmm) or source nearer home.
