Age old problem - zx6r oil light

Just picked up a 6r J1 last night, did a wee 200 mile shakedown run, everything fine, upto the redline no probs with no sign o=f distress.

Changed the oil and filter tonight and now the oil light won't go off

Let it run for about 20 seconds at a time, engine is quite, no rattling or that, also slackened the filter off and oil came out, not a jet, but definitely seemed to be under pressure, but still no joy. Even tried a wee rev.

Anything else I should try>

Had this a few times with my b1. Did you pre-fill the filter?

Yup, prefilled the filter. Also swapped old filter back on, just in case I had fitted the wrong filter, but same result. New filter back on and still no joy.

Will maybe try the wiring, but guessing that if the wire is off, then the light would be off.

Have you given it a good rev? I know it sounds like a bad idea  but it worked for me on my G.

Just up to about 3 or 4k rpm, maybe too gently as ready to kill it if any untoward noises

Worked for my old F3 too.

only ever had issues when i pre-filled the filter. dry filter=light out straight away...


all you can do is drain the filter and try again, or just give it a good rev!

You have an airlock.  Start it up an give it a short sharp handful to blow it through.  Don't think it is any thing else

i had the same problem I started it up bounced it off the limiter and the light goes out

Went out this morning and gave it a couple of tentative revs, light has now gone out, cheers :-)

Now to tackle the lovely 6 pot calipers...

never used to, but started it after reading it on here and a few anxious seconds of waiting on the light to go out. Probably won't bother next time.
