I can barely believe I'm thinking this ... but it's in a good cause. HONEST!

I'm working towards getting my 6yr old on the back of my 2009 ZX6R and having just seen a (random) bike with a top box, I'm wondering whether it's worth sticking one on for her to use as a backrest. (I've always though the grab strap is a waste of space for pillions and the only other accessory I can think of is sissy bars AND I"M NOT ******* DOING THAT TO MY BIKE!!!!)

Any thoughts on economic ways to get a removable top box that doesn't need a ton of scaffolding left on the bike all the time?

rentec rack  should do it but your best off getting a proper bracket and box trust me its the best thing you can have with a small child on the back they will safer and so will you

I was thinking of something more than just the Rentec parcel shelf / grab rails I'm familiar with. Something she can actually lean against. Maybe I need to talk to a steel fabricator and a patent engineer. Ha ha!

you can mount boxes on the rentec racks its about the most minimalist system I can think of

If you are going for a short spin EG across town, then OK provided they are kitted up and you are confident they will hold on and have feet on the pegs properly, but I'd not trust them on the back at that age over distance or a couple of hours on the back. If they fall asleep, with topbox or not, then you may lose them off the back.

Carbon - I'll have another look at them.

Ash - I wouldn't dream of putting her on the back for a couple of hours yet. We won't even have found out if she's comfortable with a safely fitting helmet for another couple of weeks yet. Baby steps! I'm just trying to know where I want to get to and how to get there before I aimlessly stepping into the wilderness.

Gav - If I consider her to have the ability and maturity to sit on the back, I have no issue with it. I trust myself not to brake her, and enough to avoid anyone else doing so. To my mind, it is best for her to learn that she can do things when she's young and has no understanding that other people may think they are unwise. Fear may keep us alive physically, but it can kill us in other ways.

Grab strap is for moving your bike, not for pillions to hold onto.

Ventura system  :undecided:
Or someone posted a plate that you can fit what you like to it. Make your own that way.

Strong Velcro on the seat and on her trousers (the stuff used to hold sliders on) - it'll take 3 people to pull her off the bike

I wish!  When I was a pillion I was thrown out of the seat quite a bit!
