If they gave it a full fat R1 motor they would probably never sell another 'flagship' R1.  Not good sense to have your bikes compete with each other.
Agree...but you want it competing with the class rivals. The engine is obviously capable.

It's still 160 BHP isn't it. Same as the S1R and only about 5 down on the Aprilia.
Significantly faster than you.....

That's only part of the story as you well know...the S1000RR is 200bhp...but BMW have the S1000R giving more low down power where it's useful. The Midrange is what counts on the day to day stuff.

Less than 140 in the vid I posted...........

It's not the outright power but how much it's below the R1 curve. I would have expected it to beat - or at least match - the R1 to 10k revs? The Ape is a genuine 155 - 160 at the wheel in reality so we talking about 15 bhp difference but again it's the area under the curve that's important.

I never expected the MT10 to match the R1 but I did expect more after reading the initial reports.

Still think it's a step up compared from the other Jap nakeds and I like the mods the OP has done. I would have considered one if it had been out earlier in the year and the only part I don't like is the "fairing".

I don't think they can be bothered developing better midrange.  I think they just detune it across the whole range then reduce the gearing.  Combined with the upright riding position, it suddenly makes a bike feel like a mid-range monster.

little treat to myself..

plate size is 8 x 6.  actually it's probably 7 3/4 x 6 as I had to trim it cause the letters were set to one side. Obviously the person who made it was blind / could not give a toss..

only a couple of hundred miles to go and those wil be taken care of via a little road trip this weekend then it's service time and all hell will break loose.. I hope..  lol..

Aero bungs fitted, just waiting for my Rad guard now from the dealer and we are done..  for now..

PS I have already changed the left hand screw to black..

Impressions so far?

Just getting better each time I ride it.. cant wait to finish running it in so I can have a proper play. but yeah, no regrets at all..  Rides greats, sounds great, looks great IMO. Just all starting to gel together with it..  and I compared it side to side with the Fluro and grey demo bike at another dealer the other day and I think on reflection the Blue is a better colour..  even if it was not my first choice originally..   just cant help thinking about a yellow speed block design though...  and it would only be the wheels and tank to change, plus a couple of small bits and bobs so not a huge outlay either..  hhmm..

still haven't seen another one on the road yet.
