I thinking design ... The strap should terminate at the top of the can allowing a single subframe mounting position instead of the forth road bridge assembly that's in place ! Just much much tidier, less parts, fasteners to fall out etc

That maybe true.

But for the total cost of £28.01, including tools to repair said can, I'm not complaining! More cash for shiney sussie bits, innit!

No I agree defo not worth the effort to change now.  Was more focused at the original designer that you to be fair.
