Right...i met some of you good people at ninjafest this year. A couple were in my group and most in inters/fast. When do you know its time to move up a group? I think i was one of the quicker riders in slow group at Donny.....does that mean i need to move to inters? Is there such a thing as a slow inter? My main aim is to be quicker....despite being a knee down virgin still....even after doing Mallory twice!!!!!!

Im at Brands tomoz and opted for inters as i need someone to pull/push me along so i can progress. Should i nail the knee down porn first or concentrate on being fast?

Any opinions/advice/abuse?

Peace x

Concentrate on being smooth and getting lines right before worrying about KD.

Riding with quicker riders will in turn drag you up if you can hang on to someone's coat tails...

Thats the plan mate. If someone can show me how fast the corners can be done at i think it would help loads.

Do remember though, that when following/chasing someone quicker, to still ride for yourself...just cause someone when through x corner at y speed doesn't mean you will.

When I have moved through the groups and gone into a faster group I always have a couple of sessions riding at a pace where I feel comfortable (my 'normal' pace) before trying to go quicker, and then it's small steps, braking later etc, but not everthing at once straight off.

oh...and fishing for knee down will have you going dog slow, best bet is to forget about it.  It will suddenly appear when it's more of a natural postioning/speed/lean angle combination.

I was following Choo at Oulton one day and completely forgot about trying to knee down as he was riding faster than me, in the end by trying to keep up with him, and within my own limits, I ended up getting both knees down that day consistently.....(not at the same time ;) )

When you can get round the track quicker than most of the others in your group without cutting them up and annoying them, that's the time to move up...

I moved to inters this year having done 3 days in novice at different circuits.

Was always at front in novice and was getting held up lapping people. Quite frankly it was ruining my days and I was making no progress. In inters I am middle of the pack and I am learning and progressing.

Unless people know you and how you ride then they can't really help you - only you really know if you are ready to move.

There can be a big difference between the riding in Novice and what goes on in Inters. The quicker you are the easier it will be as you will be overtaken less.

How happy will you be with closer passes?

How confident do you overtake?

How good are your lines?

I've ridden in the fast group for 70 or so track days and went out in Inters the other day for a few laps as I was having bike issues and wanted to check if what I'd tried had worked before my next session - I was shocked by the general standard of riding.

Stop worrying about knee down. That's not an indicator of speed just body position. One of the regular guys at the trackdays I do is always commenting that I can do it..... However he regularly flys past me on the track....
As for moving up a group. If you're at the front of your group and feel confident go for it. You can always move back if you feel swamped. Chances are you won't. Take it easy to start and enjoy.

Lord Danoir the first

Move up, if you don't enjoy it, move back.

If you're still bastard fast and double awesome like I was..... Go racing.
