Sidestand switch full of crud?

Cheers for the replies guy....I guess it could be the immobiliser. It's def not petrol... There's half a tank, battery is coping with trying to start. If side stand was issue surely the starter wouldn't even kick in.... Same for kill switch....
The starter motor is firing with a rude health but is not engaging the engine. Might try a bump start later but failing that its off to see a wizard with a kaka ecu reader....

So the starter motor is spinning but is the engine turning over?

If that's the case it's either a fault starter and the cog on the starter is not being thrown out enough / at all to engage the flywheel or worse, there are missing teeth on the flywheel and the engine has happened to stop with the gap right by where the starter engages..  To test the later try turning the engine over by hand or bumping it with the ignition off to move the flywheel round a bit then try again.

maybe let it cool down a bit and see if it still does it.. If it works when cold but not when hot that I'd suspect the starter motor..

one other thing..  have you tried giving the starter motor a tap while it's spinning ?  maybe not the best thing to do but might help rule the starter in or out..

HTH..
