I had this on my vfr400. The rectifier / regulator unit had failed causing the battery to overheat. That wouldn't run without the battery properly. New battery and rectifier and it was fine. Might be the same on the r6

its what we was thinking but don't wanna buy it and find out its not the problem as shes said its been running crap and I was under the impression that they just blow no warning

There are a few ways they can go,  so it's not so clear cut as that I'm afraid.

If she needs it sold then either buy the reg/recc and possibly a cdi unit, as this sounds like another possibility, or sell it as is.

Start with the cheapest and keep swapping in new parts until it's fixed.

Immaculate paintwork is one thing, the fact it was running crap, then "blew up" and now doesn't start is another.

Get it fixed to get the best price back, or be done with it, sell it to M6rk and he can work his magic.

Tadaaaa

I could have picked her up a near identical spec with lower millage for £1500 but that was red and she wanted blue.....

think shes going to drop it in the garage and get me to get the parts

check battery visually looks ok
see if battery will take a charge/hold it.. 12.6v or above is a good ballpark
check voltage output from the genny first..
then check voltage output from the reg/rec if the genny is good. if you dont get 13.5+V from the battery when the engine is running at around 4k rpm and you know the battery and genny is good, then it's the reg/rec.

otherwise you're wasting more of your money on replacing a part you dont know is faulty..

I had the genny go on my bandit so similer problem am I right in thinking if the genny has gone it wont bump with a flat battery due to there being no power output , as when I had problem with bandit I was charging battery daily but the moment that ran out the bike cut out?

if either the genny or reg/rec has gone you'll have no chance with a flat battery of bumping it..

you need the genny to make the eletrickery and the reg/rec to convert it to something the bike electrics can use.

ah I thought it might bump if the genny was fine but the battery was flat

No your not trapped

She needs to wake up, she won't get the money she wants, she's better off letting Mark buy it, buy a nice little pram & car seat combo, put the rest in the bank add a bit while she can't ride & buy a good bike when she's back on 2 wheels.
