Would possibly be worth buying an old shitter to insure to keep the policy up, move it on when you are ready to buy a decent bike, obviously depends on cost of losing no claims vs cost of premium etc.

Infinity have some good discounts on at the moment

https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/store/helmets/full-face?followSearch=10000

I also just got an Xlite X802-RR for a very good price, only drawback is it is a bit bling as it is the DK Moto3 champ rep

Bike Talk / All this new bike talk
July 08, 2016, 10:21:20 PM
Makes me want to post  a picture of my (new to me) bike that I picked up last Friday, which happened to coincide with my birthday, but that was purely coincidental.

So I traded my KTM 1190 Adventure in for something even more orange.

I have just replaced my SHOEI GT Air from http://www.helmetcity.co.uk/ for a decent price of £299.00, it was very straight forward as I already have one so just got a different colour this time.
Service was good, the helmet was despatched the next day, courier details sent in an email, options to change delivery on the day.

My commuter bike is a Piaggio XEVO400, is good for sitting at 80 quite comfortably when traffic conditions permit, it has excellent weather protection with the leg cover, plenty of storage and good on fuel as well.  I do use the Adventure around once a week, but TBH it is probably quicker overall to use the scooter.  My daily commute is only 30 miles each way into central London so not intensive motorway / dual carriageway riding without traffic / filtering but when I get a clear run it is nice and stable.

looks good, is that a picture of your bike, I thought you were getting the R version?

Have found a couple on e-bay, this one seems good value http://r.ebay.com/GZkCnG

Moz, what exhaust did you get for this in the end, and how are you getting on overall with the bike?

I am picking up the standard 1190 Adventure next week and need to order an exhaust (silencer), so far the following seem reasonably good value when compared to the Akro prices so would be interested to have your views.

Wings Short:   620 Euro's  (http://www.wings.si/)
Barrett:           $540 Australian (http://www.barrettexhausts.com.au/ktm-gallery.html)
Arrow:            £437 (From http://www.genialmotor.it/catalog/KTM-1190-ADVENTURE-R-2013-ARROW-EXHAUST-TITANIUM-MAXI-RACETECH but not sure about ordering from these guys to be honest.)

Cheers

Not the new one. I've ridden a 990 and quite liked it.

I have not tried the 990 Adv but had an SMT for a year used more or less every day commuting and the new adventure is so much more bike than the SMT its not funny!

I guess it depends on what you are looking for but I have struggled to do 5k miles on the RC8 this year, and if it were not for my (interesting) trip to Germany this year I would have only managed about 3k.

According to my Cousin they are coming out later this year or very early next year, which is a pain for them as not many people will want to get a bike like this in the winter.

He has ordered two, one of which is sold already (deposit was left when they announced it), no prices known as yet.

We'll see.

KTM Adventure is looking favourite at the moment.

Need to sell some biies first though.  I spoke to the physio about my knee this morning.  Agrees with me its probably the ankle movement for changing gear irritating the tendon over the knee joint which is bent due to the seating positioning.  She's not sure a rearset adjustment of just cm's will change much...

Have you taken an Adventure out yet?

I took one out for a few hours last Saturday as my RC8 was in for a service, loved it, I am seriously considering trading in the 8 for one, just need to work out the finances.

Bikes For Sale / Piaggio BV 300ie for Sale
September 02, 2013, 02:07:37 PM
I purchased the scooter in April this year to use for commuting into London.

Piaggio Beverly 300ie 2011 model on a 13 plate.

This is the ebay advert with some photographs, the milage is just over 2k as it is still in use.

Ninja proce £2500 ovno.

I did have a problem with the bike starting (see thread) http://www.mcnninjas.com/smf/index.php?topic=277.0
I took the bike into Scooterden in London who ran some electrical checks on the bike and battery, turns out that both the original and the replacement that I purchased were knackered, no over issues that they could identify so they stuck a new battery in and it has been fine since.

Measure the voltage at the battery with it bolted in and wire up, and then disconnected to see if there is any bad earths.

Does the bike have an immobiliser or alarm fitted ?

I think it has a built in immobiliser (factory) but no alarm (and a little flashing light on the dash)

I disconnected the interior (under seat) light as there was a thread on another site from a few years ago saying that not closing the seat down properly can drain the battery.

I was going to try Motoden, I did not like the attitude in Steads when I took it for the service before I mentioned anything about the issue, I guess they are used to dealing with kids & taxi drivers!!

Thanks for the help and advice so far.

ok thanks, I don't have a volt meter, would something like this be the tool for the job?

how do I check an earth to see if it is drawing power?
