Bike Talk / Rejecting a motorcycle
May 10, 2019, 10:36:22 PM
Need some help guys.
I've a 18 plate Z1000R registered end of of April last year.

I've had constant problems with it originally it went in for a Oxygen sensor fault went in the 1st of September and I got it back on the 19th October it went in twice for the same fault again.
But tonight it's developed an electrical fault with the indicators the left indicator is constantly dimly on and I can turn the indicators on with the ignition off and the key out.

I've about had enough now bikes done less than 2k and is constantly developing electrical issues.
Where do I stand on rejecting it as not fit for purpose?

Why it wasn't picked up and rectified the first time when it was in DMC Birmingham is beyond me they had it for 7 weeks and failed to notice what DK Motorcycles noticed and rectified in a few hours.

Just goes to show missing the simple causes of a fault will lead you down the wrong and more complicated fault diagnoses path.

Well they found corrosion between the exhaust and the sensor and they also found a corroded connection and water in the sensor.

They've cleaned it up and greased it for protection (maybe a design issue as it's already had a new sensor allegedly)

I rode it back down the M6 in the pissing down rain last night and it was fine I was half expecting the EFI light to come back on.

Hopefully that's the end of it now it had its first service while it was there also and no further problems were found this time lol.

Went back to a different dealer fixed within a day and possible root cause found and rectified.

Hopefully that's the fault put to bed this time.

No idea something with the ECU.

They tried a new oxygen sensor didn't clear the fault
They belled out the loom no fault found.
They replaced the ECU fault still present.

I'm at a loss at what the tech did to clear the fault of what the fault actually is.

It has the performance pack so it has non standard end cans but that was all done by the dealer before it was delivered.

Totally dumbfounded by this fault

I've a 2018 Z1000R Edition Performance.

End of August I had engine light come on fault code 33 Oxygen sensor failure so had the bike recovered to a dealer on the 1st September I eventually got it back on 19th October after Kawasaki UK had to get involved as the dealer couldn't find the fault Kawasaki sent a tech from Kent who did some work on it.

Not used the bike at all due to weather and shifts but as I had a Charity ride coming up thought I'd better winterise it after finishing started bike engine lights back on with fault code 33 again.

Now I had a previous exact bike with was stolen that had a problem with the front fork which took over a month to rectify so so far after buying a brand new bike I've been off the road without my bike for nearly 3 months and it's still got to go back into the workshop.

I'm mean it's not a hard fault it's either the sensor the loom or the ecu or a genuine engine fault.

Any ideas?

Two different problems dealt with by two different dealers.
Both took over a month to rectify the dealer ain't the problem it seems Kawasaki UK is.
I'm going to call them and go ape shit on them

Should probably add that this is my second Z1000 this year the first one was nicked but when that went in for first service the dealer found a problem with the fork leg which required the fork lower to be replaced.
That took over a month to rectify luckily I had a courtesy bike that time.
Both these faults were handled by different dealers so I know it's not the dealer being a problem.

It really shouldn't be taking over a month to repair warranty claims on our bikes.

Bike Talk / Kawasaki warranty service levels

Has anyone else had issues with Kawasaki's service levels lately?

I've got a 2018 Z1000R which threw a engine fault light the end of August.
The Bike was Recovered to a Dealer on September 1st the fault code suggests a oxygen sensor fault.
Spoke to the dealer on Friday as i've Been out the country for two weeks and they still don't know what's wrong with it.
They claim to have replaced to the oxygen sensor but the fault is still there.
They now think it's the ECU but they claim the ECU is in a metal cage and the tool Kawasaki supply doesn't work.
I'm at a loss don't kawasaki have problem fault experts in the UK to help sort this problem out.

I've now been without my bike for a month which I wasn't too fussed about as I was going on holiday but I've Ride to the Wall next Saturday and I've still no bike.

Yeah I've been given a courtesy bike but it's not the same as your own bike is it.

I thought that but I don't know if there is any difference with it being a performance edition as it has The Brembo callipers.

Bikes not moved today as I've not had any tracker notifications sent to me so parts have defo not arrived.

Hmm I'm thinking this could be my last kwak if this is the level of after sales support Kawasaki are offering.

I've just found my way back like a wondering tom cat that's found his way home lol.

Took time out after having an off lost all confidence on two wheels etc. but i'm back now and back riding.

Just got rid of the ZX6R and replaced her with a Z1000 R performance edition having serious problems with Kawasaki UK though i've not had my bike for 3 going on 4 weeks.
