Hello All,

I am in need of any old sockets you may have lying around that you no longer need, any size, any type but free or nearly free / paying the postage would be appreciated.. or maybe a bearing, socket extensions, hex keys or something similar..

I've decided 2014 is the year I learn to weld and I'm going to make my own version this table of awesomeness!!



i'll dedicate it to mcnninjas or some other gesture that will mask the fact i'm too cheap to pay proper money for stuff I can scrounge off you lot...

I think I have a few old imperial ones in the garage you can have for the cost of the postage or ninjaforce, I'll have a look in a bit for you :-)

Funny you say that Mark, as bought a SIP (Gas) mig welder from a bloke in Maldon the other week for a bastard scooter/2T trials bike project I've got planned   
I'm waiting for him to turn up with it as he said he has some business up this way pretty soon.
Have you got a welder in hand/mind ?

my old man has a tool box full of old random imperial sockets
but getting him to part with them might be tricky, he likes to hoard crap even more than me
ill ask him next time I see him tho

I have some old sockets lying around the garage imperial and metric, will dig them out and let you know what I have, they have all been well used, is that ok?

Mark, the one I've got coming is a transformer type and rated to 140 amps or just over 3kw. I have been looking at this a bit, and have been warned off the cheap hobby welders. The duty cycles of them mean that you can spend a lot of time hanging around for the transformer to cool down if welding thicker stuff. Look for one with a similar rating if you can and the inverter types are much lighter but a bit more dosh. Go for a gas flow meter if buying a new regulator as you can control the amount you use more accurately. Co2 & 5% argon is the recommended mix and the bottles are about £60 deposit and then £25 for a refill which gives approx 2 hours of continuous welding.

Make sure you get a welder with a Euro connector..


That way the harness is cheaper to replace/refurbish than a fitted one on a 'hobby' welder.

Not sure how easy it is to weld chromevanadium?

My mate Mig welded a 30 something mm  socket on to a 20mm square mild steel length of bar for me to get a hub nut off a beetle a few years ago. Should be ok

I've got a load of old sockets that I never use, will dig them out and see how much they weigh. Most aren't particular big though.

in that case do you want to get them to me and we can send em together (Ninjaforce or whatever) as it's probably easier?
