Sudden abrupt loss of power/drive??

Alright people. Happened a few times now although still sporadic. Not always same conditions either. Been to thing along and then thought might put my wrist down here. Gone to accelerate, started to accelerate speed climbing and then at high speed/high revs (not sure exact revs/speed) the bike lunges nose down as if it has a momentary cut in fuel/power? The front of the bike dives and it lurches I roll of the throttle and then feather it back on and all is ok. I thought it was the clutch slipping or losing grip but clutch is fine in all other aspects.  It has only happened a few times and they aren't exactly in the same conditions so I'm thinking something electrical? Could the cam chain tensioner affect anything? The bike starts runs and revs gorgeous so no misfires or stalling etc. Could the new exhaust be affecting the fuelling that much at high speed at certain times. I'm at a loss people so any little tips to check first would be a great help. 03 zx6r b1h.

sounds like dodgy electrics to me! Don't know what the answer is though. Mine used to do similar and play up at its worse with a flat or flatish battery, maybe get it healthchecked?

B'doom tish.

I'm here all week.

What sort of rpm are we talking here?

My mille R did exactly as you describe when hitting the rev limiter at about 11k rpm swiftly followed by a tank in the knackers for being mechanically unsympathetic. Set my shift light to 10k to give me time to see it and shift up.

Being an inline four rather than a twin I expect you limit will be higher 15k rpm rings a bell but I'm not sure.

Hit the rev limiter and the engine will cut. I've only ever done it a couple of times, but it is far better than bouncing the valves

How's the veal?

No its not the Rev limiter mine is set lower anyway from before I bought it. Battery is virtually brand new and no problems there. I am inclined to think electrical but not sure which route. Would a slight misfire at a certain revs cause it to lunge fiercely as if someone slammed your brakes on? At a guess I would say it's around 9-11k on the revs. When you say hitting the Rev limiter will cause either to cut ash do you mean a engine cut meaning a restart or a momentary cut in fuel air etc?

I'd suspect a faulty coil breaking down under load.

likely hood is its electrical but it could be several things id say its the coil

Local garage said it might be an intermittent coil problem. I will hopefully have the fairings off this weekend doing a coolant change so will have a gander. Is there an obvious sign that a coil is damaged or faulty?

big gav

fuel pump struggling on full demand.

Evil636

I don't think so as I give it the beans most days on the way to work and it doesn't show signs then in any gear or high speed. Just the odd time this problem has reared it's face so fuel delivery I would say is ok.

Alzo

Possibly light cracks...most likely nothing will be evident...it's happening under full load so will not show up...only sure thing is to replace the four.

big gav

i doubt its a coil pack, coil packs tend to play up regularly once the cock up. almost never are they an intermittent fault.
