Lost the beard, it appears...

Although I thought 3.5 seconds at 70mph for a cheap Pakistani fake set of leathers wasn't actually that bad, considering a proper set of Daineses apparently only manages 5.7.

I have not watched it and have no desire to watch it.

The beard was trimmed a few days before because I never have it that long anyway.

It took 7 hours to film and 99% of the footage never got used.  I mean how many different angles can you be filmed getting your kit out of the boot of your car.

But was most annoying was that I tried to explain that the leathers were not fake, they were cheap, made to a price, and that cheap leathers would afford more protection than say wearing jeans or shorts and a T shirt.

But because they were branded with the Yamaha logo, to them they were fake and therefore dangerous, and they did not want anything that put something into perspective, they wanted to sensatonalise it.

I did come close to telling them to bugger off if they were not going to be factual, but then I thought better of it from a PR excercise for work.

I'm about to order some custom made leathers from pakistan via janmanshop. They have riders in BSB using them and some good crash reports so not all 'foreign' stuff is bad. I dont think they do themselves any favours by sticking other logos on their own leathers though.. as you've said people just label them 'fake'..

99% of the branded off the peg leathers come from Pakistan, a place called Sialkot.  I was out there a few years ago and purchased a Frank Thomas Defender jacket (without the logos) for under £20 (retail here was around £250) but they came off the same production line, and a pair of Held gloves for £4.  The same gloves sold for over £50 here.

So, because they are made in Pakistan or wherever is not the issue, it is the quality control or lack of it that causes the problem.

Working in manufacturing, I would go along with this. Bang a load of rubbish out without bothering to check it is up to spec is cheap and easy. It is the labour involved which makes things expensive, and Pakistan is cheap labour. You can get most things made in most countries up to any specific standard if you are happy to pay for the time and labour to make that happen.
