Downsizing to a 636/750 track bike

I know there has been the odd topic or 2 re track bikes but i thought id add my own with a few reasons :)

Ive got a 2004 ZX10. Track body, Ohlins damper, PCIII and quickshifter, slip on Akky pipe but standard apart from that. Its a quick bike and a bit of a handful on some tracks

After my poor efforts at Cadwell yesterday ive decided to downsize to either a ZX636 B1 or possibly GSXR750. Ive had both as road bikes and quiet enjoyed riding both.

The thinking for the downsizing for me is ability. Ive not got the ability to use the power of the bike. Its really fast in a straight line but with me on it i struggle to do the twisty bits. If a mate gets past on a twisty section i can normally power past on the straight......so its kind of cheating lol

Id rather get a smaller bike, One that i can turn in and get on the power earlier and have a fairer fight with people. Im hoping this will improve me as a rider and build some confidence up and eventually give me a reason to go back to a thou

Has anyone downsized on track? Any pros/cons?

I went from a GSXR 1000 track bike to a GSXR 750 - I've done around 80 track days since and haven't regretted it once. IMHO the 750 is a nice half way house as it's as quick as the older thous - although I have to admit that mine's quite a high spec - while allowing you to ride it like a 600.

I have been having the same thoughts. I am no faster on my ZX10R (lap times wise) than I was on my ZX6RR, but I have a lot more fun on the 10.

The friend I do most track days with has a CBR600RR and he has been trying to persuade me to downsize for years. I semi-relented recently and hired a 2013 ZX6R at Almeria to try. Just as fast on that as I was on the 10, but I *really* missed the sheer laugh out loud grunt of a litre bike.

I booked myself some 1-2-1 with Mike Edwards instead. Fix me, not the bike  ;)
